What are best practices for updating RavenNuke and Sentinel? Is there a specific order updates should be done so as to be least destructive?

Also, could anyone cross link a forum which has a simple answer for updating the ip-to-counry information? This is as far as I've gotten:

First attempt:
1. NukeSentinel Administration panel
2. IP to Country
3. Import IP to Country
4. Lost!

...what I expected to find (and I'm hoping the answer is simple) is an "Browse to the new ip-to-country.csv file and we'll upload it". It appears no such luck.

If I select a country, then click 'Import Data' it processes for a bit but doesn't ask me for any updated file.

...so I'm in the wrong place.

I check out this path:
1. NukeSentinel Administration panel
2. Import Data
3. Lost! All of my options are:

IP2C Add Range
IP2C Range Listing
IP2C Overlap Check
IP2C Update Blocked IP's
IP2C Update Tracked IP's
IP2C Update Blocked Ranges
IP2C Update Excluded Ranges
IP2C Update Protected Ranges

...any of which I click starts another process that doesn't look like it's going to let me upload a section of, or an entire file.

Thanks,

I'll jump in here with a temporary answer until someone more knowledgeable can help. Once you have Ravennuke 2.02 you are done with Ravennuke upgrades until 2.10 is released (currently and tentatively projected for Oct by Raven). At that point you have to turn to Nukescripts.net to get further Sentinel upgrades. Each of these potentially includes a IP2Country update.
You just have to read and run thru the Sentinel upgrade process at that point. I don't think you can just import any CSV file since the format is not guaranteed to be duplicated from update to update.

Personally I'm waiting until RN 2.10 and then I'll do the update all at once, after testing it on a test system of course. If I see some post from an authoritative source that says "oh, you better upgrade to Sentinel 2.5.xx because everyone below that is getting hacked" -- then I'll rush in, bite the bullet and install it, but until then doing incremental Sentinel upgrades every couple weeks is just a bit much.

Thanks very much for you reply!

The nukesentinel.net page needs a bit of help in terms of documentation (think they're still at 2.2)...are there other resources you could recommend? I don't want to screw anything up.

Thanks,
MrE.

I just took a look at the Nukescripts download page(s). There is Sentinel 2.5.02 in the "current" area and that upgrades from 2.5.0. Then in the archive area you can find 2.5.0 and that upgrades 2.4.2x all the way to 2.5.0. So I think you might have to upgrade to 2.5.0 and then to 2.5.02 as separate steps. I'm just judging from the download pages. If I were going to do it I would download the two of them and read the readmes and go from there.

If I recall from previous Sentinel upgrades you get a little drop down box and you have to go sequentially thru the upgrades step by step, but the upgrade program pretty much takes care of things for you. Not having done it myself beyond 2.4.2pl9 I can't absolutely say that's the way it works with these.

Yes, that has been my experience as well. Just to add a bit...

When it comes to NS, if I am behind in minor release (i.e., not talking patch levels), I typically re-install the full package and the database installer usually has each of the necessary upgrade scripts built in. As fkelly states, I just run each one individually.

But, that is just ME and I come with no warranties implied or otherwise. killing me
