I've heard great things about phpBB 3, but I'm more interested in other enhancements for 2.20, especially given the major surgery I expect to be required to replace phpBB 2.x... |

No one is tackling phpBB3 yet that I know of. I'm really just waiting for a final release, as there may be significant changes until then. |

One of my hosting clients is running 3 and I have to say it is real slick and very very fast. If anyone would like to see it in action drop me a PM and I will point the way.

phpBB3 would be a great selling point for any future RN releases if we can band together to get it integrated well

If it's going to be "integrated" then I hope that a lot of thought and planning goes into it. I might be wrong but I think something that's much more "loosely coupled" than the current PHPBB integration might be in order. The native PHPBB table structure ought to be left intact and just have some kind of feed from the Nuke user table over to it (sort of like Gallery does now). Use native PHPBB templates (what Nuke calls themes) and get rid of the whole duplicative infrastructure of having PHPBB replicas of Nuke themes.
Yes, the interface might be a little less visually appealing that way and it might appear less fully integrated but the process of upgrading would be vastly simplified. There will be future RN's and other Nukes too I hope and there will be a future PHPBB 3.xx and even PHPBB4 and if we reduced the amount of code behind the integration we'd really make these upgrades a lot easier.
I wasn't here at the "creation" but I suspect that a lot of the rationale for the current animosity that PHPBB folks have for Nuke folks is because their code was badly bastardized to make it appear part of Nuke. |

I agree with you fkelly, a different direction is needed.
I think phpbb should be more like a part of the core which would allow us to get rid of having 2 different session tables. Put the forums in a sub-folder and do a major re-write of mainfile.php. As for the user table, all we would really need to do is change the user table to match phpbb3's fields and adjust the constants.php to use *_users. I've been playing around with the phpbb3 RC lately, integrating it into a custom app and it is definitely possible. If any one is interested in seeing some code proof-of-concept code I'd be happy to post it. |

I saw that in home there's a survey asking for PHPBB3 ( Should PHPBB3 be incorporated in RavenNuke(tm) in the future? ), so my crazy idea is taken in high esteem
PS: I suggest to vote like me: "Yes as soon as possible" |

Hey Evaders99
Are you still working on this?
I have installed phpbb3 as a standalone, it's great. Would love to have it in RN, even if it were a separate install.
Thanks

I have donated several times to this site, don't they throw you a bone?
.... I have also donated several times in the past to your site as well. I will donate again to your site when you have finished with the phpbb3 port and I use it.
Thank you!! |

I remember when I was over there asking about how to do a few things. They gagged on me big time for mentioning the word "nuke". Im glad that they had a change of heart. |

They (the PHPBB folks) didn't have a change of heart. They never will. The port is being done completely independent of the PHPBB developers and they will never support it. |
