I would read and apply the fix by Chatserv on the front page. Works very well! |

i have tried so many different fixes but it still is not working!!!
is it possible for me to send you any files where the problem is and have a look cos i am gettin REALLY annoyed..
Thats the ONLY problem i have with my website! everything else i have sorted!
All i want is new members to have a set avatar or NO avatar at all! Not a Red X.

In your Forum Configuration are these 3 settings
Script Path = /modules/Forums
Avatar Storage Path = modules/Forums/images/avatars
Avatar Gallery Path = modules/Forums/images/avatars
and is the Domain Name pointing to the folder where config.php is (without the ? |

There it is m8
and Raven.. Ive set it up so i have seperate Gallery's
Script Path = /modules/Forums
Avatar Storage Path = modules/Forums/images/avatars/gallery
Avatar Gallery Path = modules/Forums/images/avatars/gallery
so the seperate gallery folders are in
modules/Forums/images/avatars/gallery
and uploaded files go in just the folder modules/Forums/images/avatars/gallery
That all works out fine..
All i wish is for every new member to have the avatar set as
'http://www.stuswebsite.com/modules/Forums/images/avatars/gallery/blank.gif'
But at the moment all new members have a red x and it points to just and im confused..
Thanks |

My guess is it's the /gallery on the end that's causing your problem. Remove that and see what happens. In order to test it correctly, though, you need to restore the original Your_Account/index.php file. I have many galleries but I don't use the /gallery on the end. That has never worked since 6.5 |

To use it that way you have to put your galleries in the avatar folder, not the gallery folder. Copy the contents of your gallery folder to the avatar folder. |

ok.. i managed to move the galleries to avatar folder before i leave!
i updated my Your_Account/index.php so its a little different.
its all zipped with usercp_register.php in...
so.. my galleries and uploaded galleries all work fine now but still new registered members keep getting the RED X avatar.
basically need it to somehow set new registered members avatar as
'http://www.stuswebsite.com/modules/Forums/images/avatars/blank.gif'
when they register.
now i need you to try and fix it cos i dont know where to go from here.
Thanks |

Speaking of avatars... I have these enabled in my forum:
Displays a small graphic image below your details in posts. Only one image can be displayed at a time, its width can be no greater than 120 pixels, a height no greater than 120 pixels and a file size no more than 20kB.
Upload Avatar from your machine:
Upload Avatar from a URL:
(Enter the URL of the location...)
Link to off-site Avatar:
(Enter the URL of the location...)
Select Avatar from gallery:
Uploading doesn't work, it results in just a blank screen. Uploading from an URL has the same result, even from my own site /images directory. Choosing an avatar from the gallery also results in a blank screen after clicking Submit, and these methods usually result in a red X. The only way I can set an avatar is to link to an offsite image, and this works even from my own site /images directory. This is fine from my own site but I dislike linking to offsite avatars as it's impolite to use other's bandwidth. So it's a little confusing, even to me the supposed admin... OK it's a lot confusing! I put on chatserv's avatar fix but I get the same problem as before that. So you see, DrummerDude, some have it worse. Any ideas out there for my prob? |

Make positive that the following folders have permissions: 777
modules
Forums
images
avatars
All must be changed to 777 |

The gallery works now but uploading from machine still results in a blank page. Uploading from an URL, even my site /images directory, results in a "The file at the URL you gave contains no data" error even though linking to an "offsite" avatar works from the same /images directory- and the /images is chmod 777 if you are wondering.. Dang, shouldn't matter what url I use, right? In addition although an avatar shows up one way or the other in the forum profile, in Your Account/Your Info there is a red X after the "offsite" link in the dropdown list of avatars. I think part of chatserv's fix dealt with the Your Account issue but it hasn't taken on my site. |

Hello Raven, I took a day off to do other things and the problem with the avatars seems to me a path problem... I've put on a few mods and hacks and I think somewhere, in some file, I inadvertently threw off the storage path to avatars. This would explain why linking to remote avatars works in my forum but the gallery, uploading from machine and uploading from an url don't, since linking doesn't require storing avatars in a directory and the other ways do. So I need to know what files I should check and what lines of code to look for to verify that the avatar storage path is correct, or not. |
