Found this and thought it was interesting and thought I would ge some feedback on what you all think about it.
| Quote: | Anti spam fights spam bots
The purpose of this page is to make it so spammers who attempt to collect email addresses off the web, via programs, will not have real email addresses in their database.....This page has fifty randomly generated email addresses (refresh and new ones will appear). At the bottom of the page is a link to this page again, essentially reloading it for programs to collect more fake email addresses. Email collecting programs (spam bots) will be sent into an infinite loop by following the link at the bottom of the page and will get more and more fake email addresses stuck in their databases. |
HERE IS THE LINK
I'm considering including a link to this in our site... what do you think? |

Yeah I've seen that on a website before, I'm just wondering what sort of load that places on a server having bots looping through the page on your site? |

Of course the obvious answer is upgrade to RN2.10 and install Guardians Spam Stopper. |

Complete waste of time in my opinion. All these types of things do is attract bad crawlers which you can do without.
Sending bots into an 'infinite loop' of email collection will soon have your host hot on your trail for high server resources useage.
You would be better using my spam stopper module, turning off anonymous comment posting and utilising other things discussed in this forum to reduce spam. |

well i will certainly take a detailed look at your spam stopper module, sounds/looks cool at first glance. I'm already on the latest RN distro (and Ravenhosting) and I have taken extra measures to block many bad bots and spiders via .htaccess ....
The page i was refering to only requires that you place a link to their page from yours. They handle the "infinite loop" on their servers. I guess I just liked the idea that any spam bots that managed to harvest my site, would get something full of..... "junk email" (kind of ironic ) |
