user database from postnuke to phpnuke

I have stopped using postnuke altogether except on one site I have had for about two years. I have over 300 registered members and would like to import them in to phpnuke. Anyone have any idea how to do this?

Well I would start with mysqldiff to see what the differences in database structures are. Lesson learned: don't turn on the checks for character set / language differences.

There is a tool called mysqldiff that shows differences in database structure, and even generates SQL statements to bring one database in line with another. You will need to get your existing postnuke tables to match phpnuke tables before you can use them in phpnuke.

Well, I tried that and could not even figure out how to work it, so I am not sure what to do now. Any suggestions anyone? Please? I would hate to lose hundreds of members all at once.

By the way if anyone could even give me a step by step on how to use that mysqldiff-1.5.0 that would be great. It only seems to compare the whole tables and not the contents of the tables. Maybe I am just doing it wrong.

If I were you, I would go download XAMPP for the PC. Then import your site into XAMPP. This will give you a sandbox to play in without affecting your live site. XAMPP gives you Apache, MySQL, and PHP all on your PC with a one click install.

You can then install mysqldiff and get the hang of it.

mysqldiff operates on tables, generating ALTER TABLE statements so that your postnuke tables will morph into what is required for phpnuke. The data will be okay. Columns might be dropped, but you won't need those for phpnuke.

It isn't something I can offer you step by step instructions on, sorry. You are either gonna just have to learn it (it isn't too hard) or maybe pay someone to do it for you (and no I am not offering). Good luck!

(If you want to pay someone to do it I believe there is a Help Wanted forum you could advertise in. But try the XAMPP route first)

Well I finally gave up trying. I exported my postnuke user data to a new database, and then manually edited each field to match the phpnuke database. mostly it just involved dropping the pn_ prefix and making a few type changes. The only thing that worked funky was the user registration date, so I just cleared out that info since it is not really important.
Thanks for trying though. I think I am just too old and too dumb to learn new stuff, so I just have to bully my way through old stuff!

I'm glad you got it working!! Someday if you have some time and if you are really interested in learning this stuff the XAMPP platform is a great way to do it.
