Post-nuke and PNphpbb2 on solaris 10

We recently launched a new site and the forum which is PNphpBB2 is absolutely crawling. The site is set up with a sun v240 as the database server and a sun v210 running the web server. Installed are

Apache 2.0.53
MySQL 4.1
Turck-mmcache
PHP 4.3.10

everything runs great except the forum which is PNphpBB2...has anyone experienced this and can they offer any suggestions?

Are you using the caching templates feature in the Forums config? Since you have control of the MySQL server you might look at the settings and see if caching is enabled that can make a huge difference.

Have you checked the logs to see if your taking a lot of worm hits? Anything PHPBB is likely to draw huge stats everytime someone circulates one of those.

I also suspect that the attachment addon may really add some serious overhead but I know they are improving on it where/when they can.

This is really off base but I find that with the caching templates on a low traffic site is actually slower but if you get high traffic its going to pay off at the end of the day.

Some of the phpnuke forum speedups and phpbb ones can help a little too. Creating indexes on some of the tables where there aren't can help out a little.

Short urls on or off? This is sort of a rhetorical issue but they have broke more then one servers back.
