Is there any way to do add usergroups through the database. I had just got done rolling back my site after trying to install nsn groups. I don't know if I didn't do something right or had an incompatible version, but I'd rather not install anything new with 1000 user site. Any ideas? I've been looking for alternatives for a while now.

NSN Groups is the only viable Groups management solution... and yeah, it uses the database, but I don't know where to find a version of it for PHP-Nuke 6.5 as I didn't see that at the NSN Domain.

Yeah, I don't use 6.5, but from what I could use of NSN groups it wasn't what I needed. I needed to create a group like Registered Users, Subscribed Users, etc. I needed to create a group like that. This just seemed to create groups like I'd already been able to create. Because what I wanted to do was create a group and then only allow module access for the groups I listed. It works with subscribed users, but then if I try it with registered users and then the group I created it still lets in just plain registered users that aren't part of that group. I'm probably hoping for something that isn't possible to do, though.

imago_r, I am personally using NSN Groups and it works exactly as you are needing. Have you really downloaded it, installed it and taken a good look at it???

It allows you to create any numbers of groups -- completely up to you what you name them -- and then you can assign users to one or more groups. You can also assign news articles, messages, blocks and modules to groups as well so that only those users which are a part of a given group can see/use these things.

Seriously, give it a try.

I have tried it. I downloaded it and modified the files that it said to ran the SQL added a group, and everything seemed to go haywire after that. I had errors, some users couldn't access parts of the site, and then when I went to uninstall it I had all kinds of weird errors. That was just yesterday, and finally I had to contact my hosting provider to have them roll back the site, and the database so that everything was the way it was before the change. Not sure if it was because my nuke setup is heavily modified or because of cnyba. Either way I'd just like to know where the subscribed users, registered users, etc is in the database and add my own table. But I did try it and it was just weird to me, but that's just me I'm sure it works great for others but for me... It was a no go. Maybe it was also not for my installation of nuke. Well, back to the drawing board for me until I can figure out why I create a group, and then it lets everyone who is a registered user and not part of the group in. Sad

And being pretty much called a liar isn't very fair when I was just asking for help.

All that is said is to consider NSN Groups because it is suited for what you are trying to do. There are no implications of any kind as you are inferring.

Thanks,

Sorry. I'm a little brain fried trying to sort everything out. I think I'm having database problems in general since things still seem to be going haywire. I don't think platinum works with some of the mods or something. Just weird problems and I think I seriously should consider downgrading. Sad

I am sorry that you thought that I was calling you a liar, but believe me that was not the intent. You never specifically stated that you downloaded it and installed it, or I did not read it that way.

I was just trying to help because I have used NSN Groups extensively and it sounded to be a good fit for what you are trying to do.

I have had issues with my Platinum users of some of my modules. I don't know much about it except that you will see from these forums that it appears development and support has fallen off.

Looks like our posts crossed...

Yeah, I probably read in to it wrong too. I did download and install it, but I think I'm having major database problems as it is. Sad I went from nuke to phpbb and now back to nuke (with a lot of problems), and now I'm going through and trying to sort out extra tables and stuff.

Could I ask you what version of nuke you're using and what version of NSN you're using. It sounded really good, and it looked like it would work, but I think it was just too many conflicting tables in my database, and if you don't mind me asking do you use CNB your account? Just wondering if that might be the conflict. I installed them both on the same day and things just went nuts after that. Sad

My sites are still back on 7.5 of nuke and with patch levels from 2.9 on up. I am using the NSN_Groups_71-77_170 download from NSN.

I had found a few issues with the install, one of which I addressed in this post here:

Unfortunately, I have not been over to NukeScripts forums or downloads in a while so am not certain if the issues I identified on those forums have been corrected or not in the downloads.

Re-Edited: forgot to say that I just use the basic core nuke Your Account module on most sites and the Approve Membership module (you can GoogleIt) for one site.

Thanks. I'll look in to it. It may just not work with my installation yet, but I'll check around. Thanks for the info. Smile
