Hello all,

this is just a heads up to everyone who uses nuke & sentinel and might want to add the further protection of the HTTPauth or CGIauth security on the godady economy hosting with php.

After fruitless hours of trying to get CGIauth to work I had to give in and email godaddy tech support and basically ask what was going on? The responce I got was this;

"Thank you for contacting customer support.

I am sorry, .htaccess files will not be able to protect .php files on our system. I apologize for any inconvenience.

Please let us know if we can help you in any other way."

Needless to say I wasn't to pleased with their reply so if you're hosting with godaddy, using their economy package and having a problem getting HTTPauth or CGIauth to work this may be your problem too.

Lolol to further complicate things they replied to me again after I bit**ed at them some more to say:

"Thank you for contacting customer support. We appreciate you taking the time to write us.

We do not support .staccess files. It appears that your use of the .staccess file is related to your installation of a phpNuke application. For some information on troubleshooting your own problem, please check this link or do a google search for other information at:

Don't support .staccess files? .staccess is just a file! You could name it bob_smith or blaize.php. The name doesn't matter. You are being jacked - sorry. Come over to Raven Web Hosting if you want a real and reliable Host with real and reliable technical support!

Lol yes that's a nice way to put it but unfortunately this is someone else's site so no joy on moving it.

As a matter of interest earlier in the week I was playing with Menalto G1 & G2 to see the difference on the same site and ran in various problems related to the .htaccess files, one of which was "Apache is not obeying the 'php_value' lines in your .htaccess file" which meant that once G2 was installed everything seemed to go ok, creating albums, even uploading pics but the crunch came when trying to actually view an album. Couldn't find the album because it couldn't handle the info entered in the .htaccess file about symlinking.

I installed the nuke coppermine gallery which is thankfully behaving itself lol.
