Nope, im not asking "Could someone show me how to get this is phpnuke!?!??!", haha.. old joke.

So, what is everyone opinion about this? I personally think its very nice thing to come. Admin panel was very freaking lovely, many features will come which I have waited a long time. Maybe theres no reason to buy vbulletin anymore, since phpbb and this new phpbb will work with phpnuke (I hope).

Features that I like
-
# Completely revamped style system
# Comprehensive logging of administration, moderation and critical actions
# Give reason for banning
# Ban usernames, email addresses and IPs for limited time or until specified date
# Exclude usernames, email addresses and IP's from banning
# Attachment option management
# Allow filetypes
# Group filetypes
# Create thumbnails of oversized images
# Limit attachment number and size
#Updated forum management
# Report post to moderator

and so many others.

Im waiting this release like my next salary

The problem with revamping the style system is that it tends to break the hundres (if not thousands) of existing styles. Is there a conversion facility?

As for the banning features, it sounds like phpBB is incorporating some of the ideas from NukeSentinel!

I do like the thumbnails of oversized images...that should make most webmasters happy.

Aren't most of these things (aside from management and style changes) already mods? If so, it's nice that they are being incorporated. I'm not sure there is anything critical in there...what are you hoping for most?

Well, im looking for those admin features, sub-forums and user´s log too. Easy way to manage users that way. Sub-forums are in our site very welcome idea. report spam is for future sake good idea.

About mods, not everyone can installs mods without problems, as everyone doenst understand php so well, like someone im those "find line and replace"-ppl. Example, I tried to install birthday mod, but really soon I wasnt avaible to find right lines, always came "line not found", this phpbb 2.2/3.0 has couple "mods aka feature" all ready there.

It´s really pain in the ass when you´re trying to install mods, but you arent avaible to find lines. Like birthday mod is pretty big mod and easymod isnt avaible for phphunuke, so it´s hard. Im not saying that I will never try to learn, I always try to learn something when in installing something new, but time isnt on my side at least.

So dumb ppl like me, it´s nice thing. I realize that phpbb will finally get things that bulletin ALL READY has, but it´s only good thing.

Do you have anything you´re really hoping that for this new release?

I understand about the mods and agree doing it manually isn't for everyone. I'm trying to understand the impact this release will have to determine what effort we should place in evaluating it. Thanks for the input.

I'm with CoffeeOD... i could do the hacks and make it what i want only to find out later that an upgrade has overwrote a file that i had to edit and probably spent a good few hours doing it ( now i have to find which file and which part to edit it back to find out the mod isnt compatable anymore due a change in the code ......yes partly shame on me for not backing up this is the very reason i will not mod my boards....i am hoping this will be part of raven nuke when released it is what ive been wanting/waiting for even tho the mods have been out there....it also seems that somwhere along the way 1 mod done will not play nice with another mod eventually therefore if its in a standard install or "out of the box" form it should be good to go without issue

We have incorporated a few mods into RN, but certainly haven't attempted to include Olympus, which hasn't been released yet. We look at mods that most webmasters want, and consider the impact it will have on themes, etc. I hear you on making multiple hacks...

Sounds like a beta version then. I'm not looking to even port phpBB 3 to phpNuke until a final version. Who knows how many changes they will do from betas to the final.

i agree not till the final version is out . from some of the posts i have read over at phpbb site there has been several DB changes along the way of developement so it would be most likely a night mre to keep up with changes to try to do anything till a final version is out.

I was just more wondering if when the final version come out if it would be ported or not ...

Thank You all very much for all you do .

To be honest, I'm not even sure its worth porting a newer version of phpBB given its track record.
I have not looked at it but I would hope they have made it more modular and perhaps even made extensive use of classes rather than repeating functions in multiple files.

It's a total overhaul, there is really nothing left of the old system. It is much more module and there are some classes, but they require only php 4.3.x so they did not go as far as they could if they required 5.x

It's actually very nice, I like it alot. I have been using it since beta 1 to manage a discussion forum on the next release of Evo, which we plan to use phpbb 3.x. From a port perspective I wish who ever is going to try to port it to nuke 7.x luck as it's got a lot of things that are going to make it difficult.

Having been following it for so long I would tend to believe that a RC is coming soon since they have not been doing any drastic changes lately on the CVS and have focused on upgrading from phpbb 2.x and bug fixing. But that is only my opinion.

I think there are lots of features that are definitely needed, to match what VB and other forums do. I just hope it doesn't have the security issues that make it so easily exploited.

I see from the link mds posted that they have really thrown the boat out with a radical new 'look', with spanking new buttons and styling etc (sarcasm intended).

It might be worth looking into, but I wouldn't be interested in pushing through a Nuke version until it's more stable.

evaders99, I hear what you're saying, but I'd be interested in identifying the features to which you're referring.

One thing I do see, just looking at the code is the 'report post' functionality - thats something we desperately need.

Just reviewing that list for the first time, I see a few interesting things. But it seems many of these were mods already, and I see no discussion of security - disappointing. The question in my mind, at least as far as integration with Nuke, is do the benefits outweigh the costs? Maybe, but it will take some time to determine, I think. It's good that several are already looking at it though.

My two cents is that since psotfx (and almost everyone on his team) retired/left and Acyd took over the project it will be more security orientated. He has been much more proactive on 2.0.x since taking over.

Though nothing is ever perfect and I am sure holes will be found, it would appear to me they are at least attempting to make things as secure as they can. The new CAPTCHA system is a good example. You can also look at the security functions in includes/functions.php

Good point. We can always hope... (though I expect feedback from persona_non_grata on this comment!).
