Folks, it's happened yet again. A fine member of the community, mtechnik.net, gets fed up with his work being stolen. It's getting to the point that there are damn few of us left that aren't doing what so many are now doing :(
Re: Mtechnik Closes Shop? (Score: 1) | ![]() | I'm sorry to see him go. Really I am. I've had a number of problems with my MTechnik "MDesignPC" theme since the day I got it back in March. I've begged for help with it and even offered money to get it right, but alas all of my pleas have gone unanswered. I've referred quite a few people over to his site and have always maintained a link to it in my resources page as well as all of his copyright notices and hotlinks in the theme itself (as it should be), but was never able to get any of my problems addressed by anyone over at his site. I ended up fixing many of the problems myself (except the ones I would never be able to fix without having the .psd for my theme). I guess those will never get fixed and I'll have to find a new solution afterall. I thought as much, which is the reason why I've been looking long and hard for any HTML compliant themes for the last couple of months. |

Have you asked Jaded to take a look? |

I don't know who Jaded is, but as none of my posts in the last months over at Mtechnik have ever even been replied to, I would assume that Jaded is simply not active over there. Support quite simply has been non-existant, I've pretty much surrendered to the fact that I need to begin from scratch and simply write-off all of my existing modifications and the repairs that I've already done. Unlike most people, I have actually shared the fixes and mods that I have made to this theme in making it truly cross-browser compatible. Again, it would be one thing if I had the .psd to fix some of the pixelation problems, but given that this solution also uses backgrounds in "td colspan" arguements for presentation, I'm not sure where to begin in fixing those kinds of problems as my efforts in that regard have just messed things up more instead of fixing them. Then the fact that it uses body type code in the header with non-compliant javascript just makes matters worse. Again, theme design has never been my strongest suit, but compliance is and will remain a major issue to me. When I offered money to fix some of the problems (I think it was back in May) I got yelled at and was told that money wouldn't solve the problems and that this was a "passion" not a revenue generating venture.... Shortly thereafter, the theme shop opened. Go figure... so much for that concept, yet still, nobody would reply to my offers to pay to have this theme fixed. My feeling at this point is that since none of Mtechnik's themes even comes close to being compliant (I made mine CSS compliant at least) and since nobody even wants to talk about that issue when questions are posed, it's better for me to look elsewhere which is how I ended up over at Autothemes. While I haven't put the autothemes solution into production (testing continues....) I am using it in BETA and while I'm taking a hit performance wise, at least what I'm starting with is compliant (wvlite, which I fixed to be compliant using .8 autothemes). I'm open to suggestions, but I'm sick of having 1600 errors in my site's compliance code and not knowing where to start and wondering if it's Nuke itself of my theme just making matters worse (which is usually the case)... If you have a non-compliant theme, I'm sure you're used to seeing 1 problem in the theme creating 20 other problems... (I can give a lot of examples of this) That is going to change as I just won't put up with it anymore. Hence the reason why I've been searching so hard for a compliant solution while rewriting so much of FB's latest buggy code. I'm going to fix one version and then I'm going to migrate to it. I'm not going to continuously go through these problems anymore as they simply frustrate the (you know what) out of me. Sorry if I sound harsh or frustrated in these comments, but frankly I feel that way as I've been a supporter, yet none of my inquiries have ever been met by even a single solution. |

Shame about MTechnik, though I must say I can relate to some of his feelings on the after hours stuff... I am sure you will find Jaded most helpful though - and I begin to get concerned if more than 24 hours goes by without seeing her online. She is very easy to get in touch with and does some great work. |
