Allowing a group to recieve email notify of ALL topics

I'm a long time lurker, first time poster.

What I would like to do is enable a group to recieve the email notification whenever a new topic is created in the forums.

This could include all forums or just a selection, whichever would be easiest. It also would mean that this group of users should be notified of these posts even if they have not visited the site.

What I am trying to do is make the mail server of phpBB act like a listserv...which would allow me to put a select number of "busy" users/moderators into a user group that would be notified of new posts without them having to first come to the site and surf "View posts since Last Visit" link.

Has anyone been doing this already? If so, I cannot find any references that details this on the net. Would this require too much work or create too many issues to even consider?

The one thing that I can come up with that "could" create a problem is that once a person is put into the group that gets all notifications....what happens if they remove themself from a topic in the topic itself????

You could add the Watch this Forum module, but that is something the individual user requests, rather than turning it on at a group level. I suppose you could create a function to automate that for all members of a group, but I haven't seen anything like that specifically.

Nor have I. I would suggest that you ask someone who works specificly with bb if it turns out that no one here can help you. You can try www.bbtonukemods.com and a few others. I hope that you find what you are looking for.

That may be the easiest thing to do. I will search for this mod and give it a try. Afterall there is only a handful of staff that would be included in this group and I could instruct them on using the module.

The bottom line is that they dont want to have to come to the site and check the forums to help users. But rather pop into a forum discussion if the email gets their attention first.

I do appreciate the replies....and by all means if anyone has ANYTHING to add...feel free to give your input.

it is not a module but rather a mod. It is a forum mod for phpbb. I would look at www.bbtonukemods.com or portedmods.com

just incase u dont quite understand...and in this mod u want to make sure its ported for nuke...if u need help with that let us know

dark is correct. PLEASE be sure to get it from one of the sites I mentioned or another nuke ported mods site. Do not get this mod from phpbb.com or the like. It will not work on your nuke site. Good point dark. Thanks:D

Ok...I understand the difference. Ive run phpBB only sites in the past and know what you mean.

I will check the listed sites and see if I can find it. I will update this thread accordingly.

Ok....it must be my bad luck but www.bbtonukemods.com has been suspended...must not of paid their bill...LOL www.portedmods.com cant be found...could be a DNS issue or the site is just gone.

Any other ideas? I hate to mod a BB file incorrectly and break my forums. So any other suggestions as to where I can find a correct version of this mod for my forums?

hmm, that is unfortunate. Hopefully someone will post it for you. If not, I will dig around a little later and see if I have it. You are welcome to browse my downloads on my site. It might be there. I have a bbmods section. Please let me know if you do find it so that I dont bother to search.

Uughhh... I get the same results! This would really BITE if these sites go off-line. What a wealth of BBtoNuke info there... Sad

I honestly do not know of any others... maybe someone else does?

I was able to register on your site...but before I could search your site went down. Its still down 30 minutes later so I will keep checking to see when it comes back online. However if you do find the mod and would like to email it to me you can do so at administrator@supertraxxradio.com

Yeah....just my luck that those 2 sites would go away right when I need to access the information on them....LOL Its always Murphy's Law x2 for me it seems! Very Happy

it is now down. I was just on it. Perhaps my server banned your ip. Let me look you up and unban you. Please try again in 5 minutes if you still need to.

I just finished looking at all areas in your downloads section that I would think that download could be and couldnt find it. So I will continue to see if either of the other 2 sites come back online or perhaps I find it elsewhere.

Unless I overlooked it, which I am pretty sure I didnt...its not there. I looked at every category that didnt have anything to do with gfx design stuff and didnt see it anywhere.

Havent been able to find this mod. However I have found Devil Modz forum subscriber v2.2.

Anyone heard or used this in the past? I think I will give it a try and see if it will do what I want. Not sure if it will allow the user to select which forums they will watch or if it makes them subscribe to all forums. If the later is the case it may not be quite what I am looking for.

Just an update.

I have implemented this mod and it does work. It does not allow a user to pick which forum they want to watch. Also it only sends an email of a NEW topic posted...not any topics that have already been posted.

Does "Watch This Forum" mod work the same way?

hey jade what are some other good phpbb mod sites since portedmods and bbtonuke shut down i got the ones i wanted off your site but theres still a few im trying to find and cant. ty and by the way nice site and alot of good mods. my friend darklord gave me the site glad your site is around.
