I'm having a problem with forums permissions and the main center forums block on my front page.
I'm trying to get it so that only the public forums are viewable on the main forums block to anonymous users, then when the user logs in then the rest of the member forums become viewable on the block.
I've tried everything, what am I missing? |

mmm,the first step is to make sure everything is set as it should in your forum administration/config...
second step is to use the right block that reflects the forum settings....
not all of them do that...
but your forum config determines the viewable rights...not your block.. |

Thanks, I'll try a few different blocks. |

Hmmm, well I've tried a few and no luck. Any suggestions to point me in the right direction?
So, theoretically, I would need to set the View and Read permissions both for registered members for this to work, right? Just want to make sure I'm at least doing that right.

It is possible that the particular block that you are using will not work that way. Have you tried Raven's Collapsing Forums block? |

Well, I've tried several different blocks. I'll give Raven's a shot, but I'm ideally looking for a non-collapsing type of block. |

Well, I tried all the blocks I could and none worked, so I came up with my own workaround and just posting it here in case anyone else has the same issue.
I made a copy of the forums block I'm using now and renamed it something else. I changed this setting in the block file:
$HideViewReadOnly = 0;
Setting it to zero seems to override the permission settings in the forums, so no matter what, the public and members forum posts show up in the block. I activated this block and set it to be viewable to registered members only.
Then I set the second forums block to $HideViewReadOnly = 1, so it picks up the forums permissions in phpbb and then set the block to only be viewable to anonymous users so only the one public forum is viewable to anonymous users before they log in.
Yay! |
