group security for forums

ok, I'm looking for a little more security than the built in phpbb security has to offer. All i really want is to be able to create a group, and give that group access to a forum, without them having moderator rights. The only thing i've been able to find is categories heiracrchy that might do it, and I really don't want to jump through those hoops to install it to ravennuke.

Has anyone seen something like this out there?

What do you mean? Usergroups don't have to have moderator rights.
Create your forums, set it to Private [Hidden] permissions. Create your usergroup, and give that Usergroup permissions to that specific forum. Done

You're right...usergroups don't have moderator rights, and I want to keep it that way. I have never seen a place to give a usergroup permissions to a specific forum...but that's exactly what i want to do.

I'll search and see if i can find out how to do that specifically...

Don't feel bad. I had the same questions early on as well. IMO, it is not as intuitive as it now seems. lol
