Deatiled instruction on how to add new field

I've looked all over for detailed instructions on how to add a new field to user's profile. First question is, will a new field get picked up in the forum profile too?
Anyways, I'm pretty lost on how to get a new field added and don't want to get a whole bunch of errors in the database doing things I know nothing about.
Here is a snapshot of the 'add new field' screen in CNBYA.

ID Field Name: I'm assuming this in the name of the new field that goes something like _FAVORITEBOOKS and needs to have a counterpart in the lang file, right?

Default Value: Leave blank for a text box or add something like Male::Female for a drop down gender field?

Size: No idea

Status: ? Choices are Active, Show in register, need to register, deactivated

Order: The order it shows up in the edit profile screen?

Delete: ? Choices are public or private
