Do I need tosetup smtp or mail properties somewhere so that confirmation emails are sent out? If so where?

At the moment user register but they do net get an email for them to confirm their registration.

boss, please search the forums here as this has been addressed several times. Sometimes the issue is resolved by your Host. However, if your host really requires SMTP, PHP-Nuke/RN is not set up to use that as yet, but there are threads which discuss this as well, and some possible solutions.
