Hi all, I was wondering what the advantage or disadvantage this new inactive logout feature etc... does this help server load?
I notice the maximum it goes to is 1 hour or totally switched off etc.
Is there a chance this one hour can be increased to say 12 or 24 hours?
But mainly would like to know what advantage this feature is?
cheers all

I think it is a security type feature, a bit like internet banking where it automatically logs you out if you are inactive for a set period. It means if you are using a public computer, or even your own computer but it gets stolen, then they can't jump on the computer and still be logged into the site and wreak havoc.
Mind you I could be totally wrong. |

Hopefully kguske sees this as I haven't a clue what that option is either. Its almost as if there is another setting it is dependent upon, but not sure. It is the third (last) option on the "Expiration" tag within the RNYA configuration settings. |

I basically set this to 15 mins to see what it done and I had members complaining that they had to login again after that period of time.
I set it to 1 hour so I guess people will be active until that time expires
I was wondering if I dont touch these settings and members stayed logged in all the time does this put extra load on the server
say if you had 500 members all on perminant login, or doesnt it matter etc
thanks for any idea`s
cheers

No. Users who aren't actually on the site do not increase the server load.
Basically all webpages are served on-request. If there aren't on the browser on the site, they aren't requesting anything to generate a load. |

Period of page view inactivity (config=cookieinactivity) - auto logout after period of inactivity (removes session record)
Time of Cookies (config=cookietimelife) - sets the life (expiration) of the cookie; used by the yacookie function
Auto logout is purely for security. Neither has an effect on server load. If most visitors on your site frequently public computers, you might want to make make both smaller (or encourage them to remove cookies using the cookie cleaner) before leaving the site. If not, you probably want to leave these by default. |

kguske, my "bad", I had the wrong setting. However, I am still confused by the setting on the tab that I mentioned above. Can you explain that one too? Many thanks. |

Quote: | Auto suspend user in all pageview (Can slow site load time down. You can use only in one pageview.) |
There is a function that lets you automatically suspend users who haven't accessed the site in a period of time. The intent, I think, was to provide the ability to run this on demand or to automatically run it. If I remember correctly, the code was disabled for the automatic run.
With NukeSentinel, the comments module, etc., I'm not sure there is much use for this, hence I didn't focus on it. I will review and provide a more thorough analysis when I get some time. |
