in RNYA i miss a extra setting in the custom fields setup, there is public and private, would be nice with a hidden / admin only setting.
One of my sites need this to set some info for the user, could be special deals for a shop like user has 5% extra discount or user has gotten a spam warning before, i think it would be a small adjustment usable for others ?
Until then i will try fix it by showing deactivated fields in admin user editor. |

Just thought ! a ReadOnly field would be handy too. (Input DISABLED)
And I wonder why password strength cant be forced to a certain level. Not that i need that but would be logical now there is a strength indicator.
And why not option to disable change of the rest of the user settings. I have disabled most, and having no forum running the rest is just messing the page. Less is better, to many make people like me skip it if there are to many questions and maybe miss the essential ones

Or maybe split the info/input in 2 like a user info and a sitesetting. |

I'll be honest I don't use this functionality so I am not sure, but doesn't "private" make it hidden / admin only?

What would the purpose of something like this be?

This is under review already, but I would look for it until 2.4. |

If you aren't using Forums today, and these aren't available on RNYA, why do you need them there? |

First: i im just starting using this/setting up so maybe some stuff dont work as i think. Will have to see.
@kguske - Im not using forum, havnt tried to disable it to see if the settings disappear in youraccount. But a splitting into userinfo / setting would be a natural approach now u can have a ton of custom fields, and then extras would not mess up so much. (at 100% of all nuke sites i have registered i have never touched those)
@palbin - Quote: | I'll be honest I don't use this functionality so I am not sure, but doesn't "private" make it hidden / admin only? | hehe dont know i thought private would mean user could see but only user. I want to "tag" users or have private/admin info on them.
Readonly field, i would use it the same way as hidden, to show users u have "taged" them with "u have 1 warning" "next buy gives 50% discount".
Readonly and hidden custom fields, would save me making 1st a special table for this and 2nd wont have to mess up source for youraccount (and fixing with every update).
oh, and maybe it will make sence when i tell u its for a private few user site (100 people). I can guess it wont be as usefull on big sites, but still, would be a nice way to store info from our own modules. |

Technically if you force users to have a certain password length, like 8, this can be accomplished. |

Yes, but length isnt strength, it wont stop them from using bad passwords like 00000000
But then i dont know this strength indicator, could be it only counts length not strength.
But have seen it done before on a php-nuke site, cant remember where. |

You're totally right there. It would be the second level not sure the order but something like "weak, not bad, good..." so it would be not bad, but that wouldn't make much of a difference when it comes down to it. Ive never seen it, but yeah it counts something like length than combination of uper-lowercase than symbols and numbers, I think.
So the length would force the second level but like you said wouldnt really stop bad passwords, I keep thinking I saw somewhere in a config file somewhere how to require different characters or block redundants? |

The strength meter uses several factors, not just length, but is a warning, not an error. The password is for the user's security, and making it harder to register by making it an error will turn people away. So, I don't favor this, nor sites that do this.
Private fields are visible only to user and admin, so adding the ability to determine whether or not it could be changed by the user would give you what you want. Let me think about that.
Disabling the Forums module won't cause the forum settings to appear in Your Account. I am still confused as to why you want this under those circumstances, but we are adding the Forum fields to the Your Account functions. You will be able to specify which are displayed or hidden in Your Account, so maybe that is all you need. |
