Integrated Search Engine

Today I needed to perform a fairly complicated search on the forums. Needless to say, it didn't work. The search engine capabilities of the forums (and I'll assume the site as well) is your basic all or nothing for the given search criteria.

Have you guys considered integrating a full featured search engine with the site? For small sites, the search engine could even be used as a replacement for MySQL for sites with small number of updates (with forums remaining the key area of concern). I could offer the integration of the Lucene search engine, as I have a fair amount of experience in production environments with it. Unfortunately it's Java based, which doesn't jive well with the pure PHP nature of phpNuke.

Have you considered mSearch?

Also it is very easy to integrate Google into your website, although that does require that your pages have been indexed.
