done (saw this thread after I'd done it)
sorry it's a small amount- I gave everything I had in paypal- when I get more, I'll give more
Thanks for the help and support. Gratitude goes a long way, I guess, but not far enough to pay the bills.... |

no problem matey; I'm hoping to be able to "help" more with what I learn for other users (check out the thread I did yesterday in the themes section)
The more "noobs" like me help, the more people will realise that 'nuke' isn't "dead in the water", and hopefully the word will spread and help add more users / coders/ increase your coffers and help the community grow
I already see many "old time" users are coming back, finding many of the previous sites no longer around, but you- and the team- are still here, strong, waving the flag.
Maybe the current "owners" of nuke can learn something from you guys, or even better, donate you the rights to nuke, lock stock and 2 smoking barrels....

If I am not mistaken, this site is mostly visited by folks who run web sites, as opposed to what used to be called "end users". I, for instance, run a web site for a bicycle club in Albany, NY. We have about 650 members and a fairly significant annual budget.
Upon seeing Raven's initial call for donations I prevailed upon my Board of Directors to make one also. We've just donated $100. However, as I pointed out to my membership, that is about 1/7 of a dollar per member per year. So I posted the following message on my web site:
Quote: |
Donations
This web site is supported through your membership in the Mohawk Hudson Cycling Club. Your webmaster, Frank Kelly, has contributed and will continue to contribute his services to the club for free. Other than that, it costs about $22 a month in web hosting fees and $20 a year in domain name registration to run the site. That's it. Given that we've just saved around $1000 per year on distribution of the Bikeabout you can see that it is "quite a deal".
We get this deal because we rely on open source software and I (Frank) work with the developers of that software. Our primary software is something called Ravennuke.
The Club, through the Board of Directors, has just contributed $100 to the Ravennuke project. However, since half of the visitors to this web site are not paid MHCC members, and since the per member contribution is about 1/7 of a dollar I thought I would give you each an opportunity to make a small additional contribution to the software we depend on. Just click on the link below and go over to the site and send them $5 or $10 and I can assure you it will be most appreciated and help insure the continuation and improvement of the software we depend on.
Link to make a contribution: <-- that will take you to http://www.ravenphpscripts.com/donations.html where you can follow the prompts to donate.
Thank you all for considering this. |
I have no idea what the result of this will be ... whether Raven will get a cent or a few cents from this but it's a try. And if you are a web master running a Ravennuke site I'd suggest that you adapt the message and post it on your site too. At least consider such. Thanks. |

Well, I found this after reading this thread.

So rather than start growling at people that don't need it, I just thought I'd share my speech in hopes of raising some funds for Raven. It's there, down at the bottom, long winded & opinionated. just like me.

First... Thanks to Raven for fixing my account!
I'm such an old member here, everything has evolved around me and holy cow, I was having problems getting logged-in (probably a Y2K thing, who knows!?)...
I'm writing today from Des Moines, IA (far from home) because I heard from someone back home that my old friend and confidant Raven could use a few bucks to keep all of his great work going.
First, I should mention that I'm cheap. Yup, I write my own code and have friends like Raven (and some other here and yes, you know who you are) help out if I get stuck. In exchange, I've tried to do the same for them whenever I could.
With that said, I would admit that every once in a great while we all will find someone (or a group) that will help anyone, anytime and will offer their time, services, heck.. the shirt off their back to help someone in need. Raven regularly exemplifies these best qualities and never asks for anything.
With that said, I'm donating and not just some lousy $10 drop in the bucket either. To those of us that have known Raven for years I humbly beg you; no, I implore you to dig down deep and help our friend that has done so much for so many!
PLEASE GIVE NOW AND GIVE WHAT YOU CAN! Anyone that gives $50.00 or more, I promise to visit your web site and click on every darn ad you've got at least 3 times. I'll also encourage all of my friends to do the same! (And I have a lot of friends!)...
If I had a nickel for every time Raven has helped someone via this site; hell, I'd be rich!
BUT... Since Raven doesn't charge a nickel for providing these great resources or for his vast Nuke knowledge I can only humbly request that you contemplate what this site has done for YOU, put a dollar figure on what you think that was worth and then look at this post again!
Finally, think about what you can spare as well as what your life would be like WITHOUT www.ravenphpscripts.com. Really, think about that for a few minutes!
Then after careful consideration, I ask humbly that you donate!
Respectfully, with my greatest admiration and appreciation....
Steph
Note: Darn thing hates my Bank of America Visa card (which is just strange), so I'm gonna have to throw some money in PayPal. Give me a day to work this out Raven! |

Good to see you again 64bit.
I've been thinking about this donation thing for a while. A while back I posted a donation request on my bike club site (1500 or so registered members) explaining the rationale for donating to Raven and linking them to his donation page. I know that one person made a donation and I think there may have been one or two others (it's hard to tell from the usernames). But the response was underwhelming to be honest.
Which has me thinking further. A lot of people who come on this site are webmasters running web sites. There may be some "end users" but I'd guess most run sites. My thinking is that the voluntary thing doesn't work very well. If I just collected one dollar per registered user per year that would be a fairly substantial chunk of change I could send on to Raven. I wonder how many hundred thousand users are represented on web sites that are supported here.
I know web masters have constraints in collecting from users but it's something we all need to consider going forward. |

64bitguy,
Thank you, from my heart, for this very kind and generous endorsement. And I have no idea why your card won't work. I know the account accepts credit cards. Oh well, (probably a Y2K thing, who knows!?)
Where do you disappear to when you're gone for so long? You're here for a short while and then you're gone for months! Just wondering . Black Ops maybe? |

You click on the "PayPal Donate" image. |

Found it! Google is your friend.
In Firefox click on OPTIONS>CONTENT>
Make sure LOAD IMAGES AUTOMATICALLY is checked
Click on EXCEPTIONS to see what's in there. I did and found www.paypal.com was listed (have no idea why), removed the site and now I can see the button.
Sorry for my confusion, won't hurt my feelings if you remove all my posts on this |

I moved the "image" conversation to Only registered users can see links on this board! Get registered or login!. However, I also transferred your original post but I will fix that when I have a chance |
