Hi everyone! I've been in touch with Rikk in the last few days. He's been very kind to me, explaining patiently how to GT my site. And I thank him very much for this Wink

Let's come to the point. What I'd like to know is this: why should I upgrade my 6.8 (whick runs almost perfectly)? Is there any actual benefit? Or is updating just a way to develop for development's sake (and let webmasters work in vain)?

Please, I'm very curious to read your opinions! Wink

As long as you keep all chatserv and ravens updated code in your site you are fine I'd say.

The reason to upgrade is if you or your users benefit from a new feature. (There may be a few odd bugs fixed but most likely you have fixed them already.)

The groups and Points are the only real new features I can think of. They aren't all that great either but...

User Groups are just basic user groups points are earned for clicking banners, posting news ect... earn x points gets you into Home Team group.

There is also the subscription feature but I haven't looked at it enough to see if its very useful. I think that it either is or could be connected to a special Group too.

Then access to specific areas of the site can be based on Group levels. I think it will be nice for a lot of people but right now its real basic and there are just starting to be some releases of hacks to make it more useful (See stings news post).

i use 6.8 myself, and becuz its kinda heavily modded, i dun intend to upgrade to 7.xx unless there are real major changes or people stop producing 6.8 compatible modules. Very Happy

What I regret most is 6.8 does not have the points system. I know this mod can be added, but there are a lot of changes to make...

there is a ported mod for the points system, but it currently functions only for the forum post counts and bank mod, shop mod, etc, you can find this mod on www.portedmods.com, if you are using FNA, then this mod is useful as well..
