Hello,
I have been using Sentinel for awhile now and just recently upgraded to the latest version 2.6.01. The reason for the upgrade was I stopped getting emails saying that it was blocking stuff, so I thought something had happened and that I needed to upgrade.
Well, I uninstalled and reinstalled to the latest version and everything seems to be working fine and there are no blatant errors in the logs but I still don't alot of emails. Usually I would get 20 or so a day, in the past 2 days I got 1 from the harvester block. I am constantly deleting spammers and posts, I never had to do this before.
My question is, does this sound right? Should Sentinel be helping me with spammers. Also what blocks/utilis are the best for dealing with forum spammers, or do I just have to suck it up and be prepared to delete 10 users a day due to spammers.
Thanks,
Opie |

First, if you're running the lastest version of RN, Sentinel is now up to 2.6.0.2.
Also, you should check your blocker settings. I've only gotten spam/injected accounts, when the blockers werent set right or Sentinel wasn't updated properly.
You should probably upgrade phpBB as well. What version of *nuke are you running? |

My personal opinion is that NukeSentinel(tm) is not really a spam prevention "device", but more for hack protection. The spam captcha built into RavenNuke(tm), on the other hand, can frustrate the spammers. |

Not sure about the nuke version, I hacked it up pretty good to get it like I like it so not sure of the version, but I set it up 3/07, phpbb is 2.0.7 by nukecops. The alerts I got most in the past were filter emails from blocker. Hell, I prob just need to start fresh with ravennuke.
Any spam "addons" that are recomended? And I will be upgrading also.
Thanks,

I am also irritated that I get 10 e-mails a day about Harvesters, but I think it is possible to disable harvesters blocking in the Preferences of Sentinel.
If you have problem with spamming install bbantispam or Advanced Textual Confirmation, that stops all spam in PHP-Nuke, if you put the installation code in config.php. I have used it for two years and I have not had a single spam in that time despite guests are allowed to post in the forum.

Of course you can disable it but more importantly you should keep it enabled but just don't send emails. To All: Take some time to explore the blocker options. |

Yes, you really need to upgrade to Ravennuke. PHPBB 2.0.7 is very old and there have been a whole series of upgrades just to that. You will get all those upgrades automatically with an upgrade to RN 2.3.01. |

Notice that nearly all forums templates say phpBB 2.0.7 - they are erroneously hardcoded into the template. That is not likely what they are using as most phpNuke versions included 2.0.15 or above. |
