How can I read a desired number of charakters from a table...
I would like to read... let's say... 50 charakters or 30 words from a table... can it be done ?? And how can I do such thing...??

Read the column you want and then use one of the String functions in PHP, like substr(). See http://www.php.net/manual/en/ref.strings.php for the details.
