Sentinel for PHPNuke 7.6 with 2.8 verification...

OK here we go...

I've followed the instructions to the letter. I've u/l the folder contents to where they go, etc, but I have a few ? I need clarification on first:

.STACCESS...
1) What pw am I encrypting in the .staccess file? Is this a *new* password or am I encrypting my current admin pw?
I assume I can rename this file as long as it has a . in front of it and the .htaccess file points to the new name?

TEMPLATES.txt...
2) What is the TEMPLATES.txt for? Am I to copy the contents to somewhere? README says *do not u/l* and I didn't, but I'm not sure what the info inside pertains to. Do I need to do something in mySQL and point it to that file?

CHMOD 666...OR FTP...?
3) "sample.htaccess and sample.staccess are samples of the CGIAuth system. In the sample.htaccess file you will see a sample of the code needed to use CGIAuth and the sample.staccess, while empty, if renamed to .staccess, upload your server then chmoded to 666 will store the CGIAuth AID's and Passwords." ... I don't know what chmod 666 is, nor how to do it but I did just FTP those two files (after modifying) to my phpnuke's directory ... is FTP'g ok or do I have to chmod 666 and if the later how do I do that?

nsnst.sql?...
4) "sql/nsnst.sql ----------------> If the nsnst.php installer does not work
on your server you can use this file for
installation."
I didn't get a nsnst.sql in the folder. I will try the nsnst.php first.

5) I gather by the README file that I first do the nsnst.php (after I've u/l all the contents of each foler and the access files) and then u/l the altered javascript, admin, header and mainfile?

I'm trying to get everything *ready* first and do it all in the right order, etc, to avoid complications. Thank you for your time! Hugzzz

Awwww you're all sleepin or something ... I answered *some* of my own ?s but now have a problem. I'm ansy so I had to *try* to get started...

First, to share what I found out regarding my ? above, correct me if I'm wrong...

1) Use your God admin (superuser) login/pw and it's apparently ok to rename the .staccess file {something like .mysecretfile or whatever}
4) & 5) No nsnst.sql needed as the nsnst.php installed fine : o} I u/l the javascript, etc, changes AFTER per the README file, all seems fine there.

Now for the problem. I can log into the Sentinel admin np. I've changed most of the initial settings to match what was on the Guide (1st page for Admin) ... only problem I have *so far* is the following errors, please tell me what I've done wrong?

Admin Auth: Admin HTTPAuth

htaccess Path: /home/******/public_html/myphpdir/.htaccess
Normally: /home/******/public_html/myphpdir/.htaccess
File does not exist or is not correctly CHMODed.

staccess Path: /home/******/public_html/myphpdir/.mysecretfile
Normally: /home/******/public_html/myphpdir/.staccess
File does not exist or is not correctly CHMODed.

Now as stated above I didn't know what CHMOD'g is or how to do it, I just u/l those two files the the main nuke directory. Is CHMOD'g necessary?

BTW, I didn't activate the modules nor the blocks as I didn't see to do that before going into admin ... I may have missed that? Should I active all of those first, before I work on the Sentinel Admin settings?

I've changed the path abit (in the errors above) but I'm *pretty sure* my true path is correct. I did try the readpath.php and all I got when I went to the page was just

*talks to self* LOL ... OK I found out what CHMOD 666 is ... and I reply here for those that don't know.

You go via FTP to your *remote host* where you have stored the .htaccess and .staccess files for your Sentinel, right click on just those two files only (click the first file, then hold down CTRL key to select the other file), in the resulting menu pick chmod (UNIX), in the resulting menu click on Read and Write (but not Execute) for all three sections of Owner / Group / Other. Then click OK and close your FTP progy.

CHMOD 666 means to allow Read & Write for all users. Doing that and hitting refresh on your browser, while in Sentinel Admin page, fixed my errors above. Now on to the next sections of the manual's settings for probably *more errors* ...

Sounds like your getting a handle on everything. I know its frustrating when installing some of these things for the first time and things like chmod resemble greek or should I say geek? One thing to remember is that there are very few times a question has not already been answered. Finding it isn't always easy but that comes with knowing how to ask the question. As often as not the answer lies buried in some long forgotten thread with a userless title like Help My Sites Broke. But we're working to get things organized a little better as the site grows.

While often overlooked the Only registered users can see links on this board! Get registered or login! contains answers to tons of questions but you almost have to use find in this page from your browser navbar or google because there isn't a search function in the online version.

Actually I read the Sentinel Manual and the FAQ first (and no not the PHP manual, spose I should huh?), neither addressed my specific errors above as they related to Sentinel install. And yes, I know all too well how some posts are mislabeled and I for one don't read them but I do try forum searches with specific keywords from my errors, etc. I find a good many of my ? that have not been answered in a specific forum I belong to are often found in google searches LOL. Anyway I'm not upset, as I've said in previous posts ... I know how PHP *can be*. I hope it's ok if when I do ask ? relating to errors and later find my own answers that I can post them also because they may help others in the future. You guys (n gals) have been immensely helpful to me thus far and I'm very greatful!

What I'd like to see is things organized better by specific subjects maybe. Not that that is possible due to the massive amounts of data here but it might be easier for folks to find specific answers to specific problems if there were a way to organize *errors* and their subsequent *fixes* in categories or something. I know, a massive pita that would be!

Again, this is one of the few forums that actually *reply* at all ... I know y'all have Real Lives going on ... so I'm greatful for you folks' help!

OK all *look good* so far, I've gone through all the changes in the admin and config sections ... now to turn on the blocks and modules n see what happens next LOL ... wish me luck!
