Considering the following that this site has and the breadth and depth of the the coders that come here: why not brand a new version of nuke and leave this developer behind?
I totally agree and wish I had the time. That's the ONLY thing that holds me back!

No, I never had a new version. A couple of times I prepackaged released versions, but that's all. I discontinued the practice when so many others started popping up. It's very confusing for new users and such.

Perhaps you could just manage the project and its direction while allowing other trusted people to work on it. Using a CVS or SVN to track changes and daily builds, etc.

I am sure people would love to follow people like chatserv, bob, 64bitguy, you, etc. rather than a someone that can't code php correctly to save his life.

This has been attempted a couple of times, but, life happens. When I origianlly had the time and energy, we actually got the project started, or so it seemed. Then, the 2 main people that had enlisted to help had to drop out. See http://www.ravenphpscripts.com/postt1105.html

fantastico has planned to drop phpnuke in version 3.x and are searching for a compliant alternative.
Dragonfly isn't the alternative since it's immature and not compliant.

Maybe someone ever develops a new derivative called Fantastico-Nuke Laughing

Our understanding is that Fantastico will NOT drop PHP-Nuke in version 3.x, but will enable hosts to add and remove scripts on their own. djmaze, can you confirm this with a link?

I don't think that means that they will drop what they already have. Especially in light of other recent threads on the subject.

Agreed. I think (and hope) that means using 7.6 instead of 7.7 or 7.8.

I'd heard about Fantastico, but never seen it before last week, when my ISP added it to their cPanel. Having done a little reading since then, I think PHP-Nuke is there to stay. It's one of their most popular scripts. They'd get lynched if they removed it!

I like what FB said:

The real fact is that, you as user, have the power to get them all, test them and in the darkness select your favorite system to rule the world.

You guys should give the man a bit more credit, eventhou he may be a prick, he started out this whole thing, and strangely enough he still is seen as the authority as in updating Nuke, because else someone would have already taken over his work, but it seems to be generally accepted what he does. Because I do not see other versions of Nuke pulling of what he is doing for such a long time, and that is mainly for the simple fact he is working alone imho, else nuke would have already died a slow death, like many open source group projects. On one side his solo preformance can be seen as arrogance, but it keeps everything up and running. 7.9 ladies & gents, prepare for a new standard, it will come, you just need to fix it a bit here and there

You can see this in a funny way as FB creating the bugs and the community fixes them, but how would you feel if he would have started this project and would have made it perfect AND commercial? Then we all be doing Mambo?! And what is the fun a perfect cms? not a lot, now is it... else all of us wouldn't be doing all this.

So thank FB for setting us all up with a great hobby called Nuke, no matter how big of a "fill in what you like" he is. He is still the father of our community and of our baby Php-Nuke dispite a couple of wrong moves.

But then again, what do I know... I'm just another soul sharing his opinion here.

Arrow Exactly what i wanted to say..

Surely you gest. Confused 7.9 is the new standard? If that is the case I am on my way out of nuke alltogether. I believe you to be misinformed. RN is the wave of the future. Why on earth would anyone ever use 7.9 Question Question RN is at least secure (up to the current time) and any bug found with it is addressed immediatly. FB cannot even come close to saying that about his releases. Smile

I suppose that if you are using your site for "S***S and giggles" then you might consider using something that FB releases. However, if you are running a business or have a serious site to run you would have to be a MORON to use his (FB's) version of nuke.

I would think that taking a look at the security issues released with his nuke would be enough to make anyone run. Simply take a look at the history of nuke my friend. You will see that while FB may have created nuke, he did no favors for anyone in the long run by releasing packages that he KNEW to be not only buggy but INSECURE as well. Wink

I am still cracking up over this statement most of all. I guess you can't count too well if you see only a "couple" of wrong moves. He has made so many wrong moves that we lost count a very long time ago. And it is not his arrogance that keeps things running. It's those that follow right behind him and redo his work. Trust me. If no one would would pick up the pieces for him, it would have died a long time ago. I can't decide if you're for real or a troll. But, for a while anyway, we'll play the game ROTFL

"Dispite" a {couple} of wrong moves, I am glad that he gave us Nuke; however the father of our community thing just gives me a weird vibe.

I am not sure why. . .

thatware and php-nuke have inspired a lot of programmers to design a portal or cms.
Some started fresh others started as derivatives, just like we did.

We thank FB for not listening and inspiring us to build better systems than his. However he is not god who created it in one day. He has used many diciples/sheeps to get his goal.
There's nothing left to praise him anymore...
