Greetings fellow Nukers.
I read the following on the PHP-Nuke 'User Registration/Login' page:
'You will receive a confirmation email with a link to a page you should visit to activate your account in the next 24 hours.'
Should this be interpreted to mean that the person registering should receive an e-mail within 24 hours of registering and subsequently they should visit the link URL 'whenever'?...
Or...
Should this be interpreted to mean that the person registering should receive an e-mail and that they must visit the link URL within 24 hours?
Fundamentally, I am not sure if the activation link expires after 24 hours if registration does not take place by the link being clicked etc.
Please advise. |

it simply means that the link is send within 24 hours.
allthough we know its send within a few minutes, but if its on appproval it can take hours....depends when the admin approves..
after 24 hours and the new member didnt clicked on the link in his mail to conferm his account that is still temporary will be invalid. |

tangoman, your second point is closer to being correct.
With standard PHP-Nuke, if the new user doesn't activate his / her account by clicking on the link within 24 hours, the temporary account information stored in nuke_users_temp will be deleted the next time someone else activates an account. It could be more than 24 hours, depending on how active your site is and how many new users register each day.
If you install one of the Your Account replacement modules (e.g. NSN Your Account or CNB Your Account), you have more control over how this is handled. |

Thanks for the replies Hitman and Kevin.
Kevin...So from what you explained, with my current set up, the diciding factor as to when the registration information expires, is the act of a further user signing up before someone has a chace to use the information that was mailed to them!
So, user 1 could sign up, then before they check/receive their e-mail, they could make a cup of coffee, but a second user could subsequently register and before user 1 returns to computer to complete registration, the second user could have done all this and rendered the information that the first person has received, invalid.
Is that all correct? |

Aha......I think I misunderstood you Kevin.
I think what I just posted is correct, but only after 24 hours has elaped.
So I think I am correct if it takes user 1, 24 hours to 'make the coffee'...Is THAT correct? |

well like kevin said..
there is a slight difference between a few your-account mods.
personaly,i use the cnbya your account.
that means that the admin can decide how each new account is verified, accepted or whatever.
in my situation....i approve every account or if i bad vibes il say hasta la vista baby........lol
and then i deny them.
when i accept them i hit approve and a mail with ACTIVATION link is send.
the member has to click on the link in the mail to varify and activate his account.
in that time period the account stays in temporary state, and gets perminent when the user activates.
However he has 24 hours to do all that..
If not it gets invalid and he has to register again.
Difference is that the nsn your-account (french development) can be set on approval but doesnt send the activation mail,i tried all that.
Maybe its clearer now..... |

Yes, tangoman, THAT is correct. If the new user hasn't clicked the activation link within 24 hours, the pending account will be deleted when the next new user activates an account. If the new user activates the account 25 hours later, and no one else has activated another account between hours 24 and 25, the account will still be activated.
I agree with hitwalker: the CNB YA provides so many great enhancements over the standard Your Account module that we often take its functionality for granted. With CNB YA (and NSN YA), you can disable registration completely, require that all new accounts be approved by the admin (as hitwalker does), and a LOT more. I strongly urge you to download and install the Only registered users can see links on this board! Get registered or login! module. International support for this module is...you guessed it...right here at RavenPHPScripts.com. |

Be prepared?....When?....You mean, once I have installed CNB YA?
When I install CNB Ya will it change the look of the site?...I dont want that...I have spent enough time trying to customise the site etc. |

Heh! I get a kick out of these disclaimers!
This is what I'm running on my production site...
I'm sure it had the same disclaimers, i.e. don't worry about it! ... |

CNB YA 4.4.2 was developed for 7.5 and prior. You will need to look for instructions here for using it with 7.6 - and possibly additional instructions for using it with Platinum 7.6. |
