Sorting a domain for a hosted site?

this has nothing at all to do with php-nuke, but i have been looking around many sites and im getting nowhere as im not prepard to buy summit before i understandwhat im getting!now i have noticed that almost everybody here runs thier own site so pretty much all of you could probably explain this 2 me:
*also im not sure in the terminology of what im looking for

what i want to do is be able to access pages of my site through a 'cloak'

what i have:
free hosted php-nuke website without root access
http://195.137.8.68/xplicitbehavior/kroolheart/

that is the root dir of the site i want to host atm i can see all pages with
www.kroolheart.tk/(whatever poop u want here)
this takes me to my homepage
http://195.137.8.68/xplicitbehavior/kroolheart/index.php
from which i can see nepage without changing url

what i want:
i want the ability to type in www.kroolheart.(summit)/modules.php?=forums , etc
and go direct to http://195.137.8.68/xplicitbehavior/kroolheart/modules.php?=forums
then when i click it should move me around my site but keep www.kroolheart.(summit)/(modulename here)

well thats the basics

stuff i keep hearing abowt:
mod_rewrite, what does it do? could it help me? can i use it without root access?
i keep hearing that i need a dns server, is this likely to be provided with my free hosting?(http://www.gatewaygaming.co.uk/)
if not can i get dns servers seperate?( with or without a domain)
can i set up a dns server?(at home or on server)
what features would i want if i try and buy(rent) 1?
