Just turn the Tracking on in NukeSentinel and turn all other tracking applications off and empty their associated tables.
|
Thanks... |

Ok, after reducing the DB size to a total of ~95mb, users are still saying there are still problems with posting msgs.
They do indicate there's less errors now, but stil say they get an error page from time to time.
I was still wondering about 2 large tables:
nuke_bbsearch_wordmatch = 40.3MB
nuke_bbsearch_wordlist = 7.3MB
Can/Should/Mustn't I truncate these tables? if so, will it help reducing errors? |

Why do I need to keep 40mb of search words history?!
I know I don't need it. is there any module needing it? |

I would need to know what the actual errors are. |

Hi cs...
Well from his first post...
Quote: |
Lately, users complain about error pages after posting messages in forums.
it can take upto 2-3 attempts to post a message to the forums successfuly.
and
The thing is that not always phpbb saves the message, so going back is not always a good solution, especially when trying to send long responses.
|
So i get the idea there aren't realy "errors" but the forum isnt performing well... |

Right. Sorry, if the "error pages" expression was missleading...
And BTW, thanks for jumping in, ChatServ. |

Exactly, the first post mentioned error pages so that's why i asked, easier to solve problems when you have these, in your case i guess performance is being hurt by the sheer size of the db as happens to users of standalone phpBB, and it's always caused by the search tables, they can get really big in no time even on low traffic sites. |

well this might help to...
The most popular method for reducing the size of the phpbb_search_wordmatch table is to add lots of stopwords (ie- words which are not indexed for the purposes of searching) and then go through a two-step process of removing those words from the wordlist table and then removing the related entries from the wordmatch table. There have been threads on that specific procedure as well. |

See why I didn't/don't/won't have time to read all the info? |

1. Thanks for all the greetings!
2. I've read some (very long) threads in phpbb's site. Ok, I understand the size of nuke_bbsearch_wordmatch is causing the slow posting and/or error pages.
I also understnad that if I erase the table, I won't be able to use the search option. So I thought taking advantage of the local google search, so I tried testing it by searching my site with a few of the recent posts (not too recent. I tried looking for 2-3 days old posts), but to my dissapointment, it couldn't find the posts. posts about 2 weeks, it manage to locate.
So... what's your suggestion then? Should I empty the search tables? Which search engine can/should I use instead?
TIA! |

Should I get down on my knees and beg?
I realy have been reading some threads on the phpbb site. didn't find something to reduce the size of that table. even the mod to rebuild the table, is reported to create even larger tables!
I currnently truncate none of my forums. Will truncating forums will reduce the size of the search table as well, or will it only result in lose of posts, without reducing those problematic tables?
And again - is there another way to search the forums? some external util maybe? |

well to be honest...
i shouldnt touch the tables.
the things ive read and seen by now makes me believe that its not a good idea to mess around with the tables.
but if your looking for a good solution i suggest you post this at the phpbb forum . |
