what patch do I have and will it hose my addons?

Hmm, ok I have 7.6 patched installed, but I don't know which version, how do I find that out? Also, I have added a lot of addons which have asked me to tweak code in multiple places (probably 5 add-ons with 5 tweaks each). Those will all be hosed (lang files, mainfile, etc) if I do an upgrade at this point to 3.1 right?

Usually, you can tell the patch version by looking at the readme that came with your download.

Upgrading to the 3.1 patch will not affect your language files. It does affect your mainfile, and requires a minor modification to the index files of your addon modules. I suggest using a file comparison tool like Beyond Compare or WinMerge to compare the patch files with your current files.
