Spacing in a block

This is probably the lamest question ever...but I need to know how to space in block content.

Example..I've put in:

$content =" <b>1) Rose </b><br>\n";

and it prints on the screen like this:

1) Rose

I want it to print like this:

1)____Rose...where the underscores are spaces.

In order to line up all the names nice and pretty.

Can you please point me in the right direction. Smile

Use as many   instead of ASCII spaces. It's an HTML thing...
