Some of my users are complaining that FCK editor loads rather slow.
I'd lie if i say it's a lightening, but I do not grow roots waiting
Any idea how to speed up things?
Guido

Already did that...
On my old nuke 6.9 I was using wysiwyg 3.0 (I think based on Spaw) and it was faster . Pity it didnt work with Firefox... |

Thats always been the negitive of FCK, is how slow it loads.
I am sure with some coding changes you can replace FCK with Spaw. |

I did some testing with SPAW integrated with nukeWYSIWYG, but couldn't get it to work in the time I had available. I've said before that the trade-off of functionality vs. load time makes FCKeditor the preferred editor, and I tested the major ones pretty extensively before reaching that decision. Remember that the grass isn't always greener on the other side: some functions in PHP-Nuke are fairly poorly defined and would load slowly with any WYSIWYG editor (e.g. submit news). That said, I may look into some way to optionally load the editor, or the additional tools, so you can use it if you want it. |

The next version off FCK editor 2.3 should be 3 times faster.
may be that is a solution |

Thanks for pointing that out - we will begin testing with nukeWYSIWYG immediately. |

I have been testing it out. Some nice fixes and a few additions. But I think the 3x speed increase is a bit of overstatement. It loads faster, but I would not say its that much. |

Wow! It added a maximize feature, too! Several people have asked for that... |

Could it get any BETTER?
The new version adds some very important features:
- maximize (already mentioned)
- single (detach) toolbar (think submit news and add content) - one toolbar for each editor instance!!!!! (unfortunately, this currently has issues with IE...surprise!)
- FitWindow (not sure what this does yet, but it sounds interesting)
- AutoGrow (expands the toolbar to show all content when editing!
- and a host of other fixes, improvements and tighter security
Many of the enhancements were contributed by others and adopted into the core source. THIS IS WHAT OPEN SOURCE IS TRULY ABOUT. |

kguske - Does the color menus for text and fill not work for you in FireFox? |

technocrat, haven't played with that, but will try it.
With consolidated image loading and a single toolbar, news and content and other multi-textarea forms will load MUCH faster... I can't wait to get home to test it... |

Actually its putting the selection menus for me on the screen, but way off to the top where I have to scroll up to see them. Not sure what why |

These notes from the 2.3 changes might address part of the color issues:
Quote: | The "Text Color" and "Background Color" commands buttons have enhancements on the interface. |
and
Quote: | The "Background Color" command now works correctly when the GeckoUseSPAN setting is disabled (default). |

2.3 is released, so we'll begin our testing on using it with nukeWYSIWYG this weekend. |
