Hi all

Is it possible to connect to a database on another server.

For example Phpnuke on a webhost server hosted by a company and my mysql database on a server at home.

Could this be done???

many thanks

John

Off the top of my head, I believe it is possible because I believe mySQL can do this (remote connections), but the questions become:

1) Will your host allow traffic OUT from it on the necessary port
2) Will your ISP allow traffic IN on that port (don't forget your own firewalls)
3) And then somehow nuke's db calls have to be changed to invoke a connection on a remote host.

Sorry, have never done this, nor really looked into it, just giving possibly some direction for your further research.

Yes, it can be done. You have to give the server name a legitimate service name/IP that links to your domain name on your pc at home. Obviously you must be running MySQL as a server at home and have the correct port opened for Internet access.
