Hi All

I have been with my host for a long time, so I guess that's why I'm still on PHP4. I was looking around and saw that I can switch to PHP5 if I want to.

The options are: PHP4 CGI (Not Recommended)
PHP5 CGI
PHP5 FASTCGI (Recommended)

Would the recommended one work fine with my Raven Nuke install ?
Also for the any old modules I have, would the DBI thing fix them, if they weren't to work after upgrading. I guess I'm a little scared to go through with it, since it says I cannot go back to PHP4 once I make the change.

Thanks

I would use xampp and test it with a local install to get all the bugs worked out first.

The regular RN would work fine, but if you have third party modules installed they could be a problem. I would say it would probably be fine, but you can test it like Nuken said. If our site is just recreational i would just switch and see. You could always switch it back.

Thanks for the replies

I decided to test it locally with xampp. It took me a while to figure out but I got it working and everything on the site seems to be working fine. I guess I will go through with it and go to PHP5.

I'm glad it is working for you hopper. XAMPP is great for testing things without risk to your site.

I do it as a courtesy. I have clients that have everything running just as they need it to and forcing them to PHP5 would mean upgrading their scripts which they don't feel like taking that on right now.

I am not so familiar with Xamp yet. I always use wamp. Can you explain a little bit how it works. Is it better than wamp? Question

XAMPP works on linux or windows, that's the only reason I like it better than wamp.

and the fact that I've been using it on both Windows and Linux for at least six years and have never had an issue with it... including upgrades. Provides a fully functioning development environment of Apache, MySQL, PHP and Perl. There are even additional add-ons for other things such as a Java stack. Also comes with an FTP server and mail server if you need those (i've never used).
