I tried searching but could not locate a similar topic.

When users reply in the forums for my website, they get an email notification to topics they are subscribed to. The link looks something like this:

http://www.xxxxxxxx.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&p=81#81

When you copy the link in the email and paste it in your browser, it takes you to the last post in that topic. However, if you click the link in the email it takes you to this address instead:

http://www.xxxxxxxx.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&p=81

For some reason, it strips the #81.

I am using Shortlinks, but not sure why that would affect this link, especially when it shows correctly in the email.

Any ideas?

I've never really used this feature, but could be an issue with your email client. Are you able to check via webmail and see if it has the same result? If not, it may be that something is happening when the message is encoded.

Interesting.

CORRECTION.

The link works fine from Web based mail. From my Mail client Windows Live mail on Windows 7, clicking the link strips the end of the link away.

This is really weird.

Can anyone else confirm this happens with their email client?

hmm, i just received a notification from this site, and it worked fine.. Can you try watching a topic from a different email address (not on the same mail server)? I suppose it could be something that is happening when it reaches your mail server and/or any built in filtering, etc.

edit: just noticed your prior posts.. maybe use Thunderbird instead Smile

It must be a Windows Live mail security setting. I d/l Thunderbird and tested it and the link works as intended.

The still funny thing is that the link shows up correctly in the email in Windows Live mail, but when you click the link it strips the #84 or whatever number.

P.S. I'd use Thunderbird, but I think it is crap as an email client to be honest. I hate to say it, but Windows Live mail is MUCH more user friendly. Less the little bug I've found... Rolling Eyes
