Last 1 1/2 month i was spending time to create a socialmedia site where you was able to register and could add other users/friends to chat with.

All chat connections went trough Websockets so the chat was a real live experience, messages received instantly.
Users could change their profile image by upload or use gravatar.com link.
If visited the chat section, the other connected user was instantly notified that the user came online.
If the user did not have the chat window open to his connected friend, and this friend sended a message, that user got notified by let the name of the friend blink.
Just like skype/msn etc.

Now that i have it almost all done, i loosing interest in the project.

The reason is mostly because of history i have in failing projects.
Most of them turned out pretty big.
As an example i go mention narrow-casting (when i started that, no one knew what it was... and look now).
Another one is a type of OpenID ... well i don't need to explain how OpenID is doing or did.

But there is always someone with the same idea, and in my cases, the other ones just turned out to get the success (and of course they deserved it).

But one thing i must say..... I LEARNED SO MUCH, that it is unbelievable.I was able to help many people out and made them happy.

So what should i do...shall i keep working on this looser chat site....finish it.
Or drop the work on it, and perhaps start a new project, what ofcourse could fail again.

And oww yeahhh HAPPY HOLIDAYS

wHiTeHaT your idea has potential and probably combined with the idea i have it might still be of good purpose!
I also have a "chat" project for a customer that works without websockets (due to limitations of Windows Phone 7-8 ) but in theory that should be implemented next year.

It probably isn't 100% what you want, but combining strengths in ideas and techniques might do the trick.

I definitely wouldn't give up. There have been times when I have developed something and someone else either beat me to the market or simply made a better product.
Even though it takes up a big chunk of time, I don't consider it a loss because I'm always learning new things, whether it be safer and more efficient code or simply new ways of doing things.
It sounds like you have spent a lot of time working on your project so I'd definitely finish it.
