Moving Host

I have had a good look around but I don't see a how to for moving host?

If there is a thread somewhere could you kindly point me in the right direction please.

It's Ok - I'm almost there. I didn't realise I could install the database and test before switching nameservers. Thanks

Ok - I've uploaded all of the files but I seem to be having a problem populating the database. Ny database is about 16MB and I keep getting a timeout error.

What I'd like to do is a test run to make sure everything is working before I ask for the nameserver to changed.

Is there a foolproof method of loading the database?

So how would you like me to pass you the file?

Presumably I need to take the latest backup, ask for the nameservers to be changed, close the site and install the database on the new server then wait for the DNS.

Is that right?

Or, leave your site active and just close down the forums and registration until the DNS resolve. Just PM to me a link to the sql compressed backup file and I'll do the rest. I will need you to create the database(s) and user(s) here and then I can load the database(s).

I shut down the site using nukesentinel and then setup the new site using the gzip database which worked perfectly.

An hour later and I'm browsing the new site - mail works perfectly! All my woes solved - Thanks Raven!

PS - I'm still not getting any notifications from your site?

That was a test of the email you were using from the email link in the forums. Let me know if you receive a topic notification from here. You're sure it's not getting trashed by some errant span trap?

As I haven't been here for a while I just wanted to check in and say hi!

The hosting has been superb and I'm delighted I made the decision to move to such a great host.

Now I spend all of my time marketing and promoting and the site is growing rapidly.
