Password Encryption

This may not be the right forum, but I will ask here anyway....

Currently Nuke uses md5 encryption. If I wanted to up it to sha1 encryption, will the cookie decode of "base64_decode" etc. work to decrypt (if that is the right word, lol) it so it is readable?

If not, what is the proper php code needed to replace "base64_decode" ?
