I haven't noticed any significant issues. The details are loaded in the same SQL statement (although it's got one more table) and the JS is loaded once per page - and it's much smaller than similar tools that use custom HTML tags. You're right: there is some extra PHP processing to format the HTML, so I suppose that could be significant for forums that display thousands of topics or search results on a single page... Like everything else, it's a trade off. If you decrease server load by giving extra information on the first page, you save server load by not loading unnecessary pages. Is it worth a few milliseconds on the initial load? I think so. |
