Hi all!
I just nuked my database, it gone forever.
Searching my harddrives I found 2 backups
One dated 2005-12
One dated 2006-02
I can restore from the 2005 file, but not from the 2006 one.
When trying the 2006 it says that no tables are created
So I try to first restore the 2005(with 16 000 entries) and the restore the 2006 (with 18 000 entries) over the 2005.
It says 18 000 entries are made successfully, but when I create a new backup and compare it, I cant find the new categories and content that is in the 2006 backup?
Can anyone share some thoughts on this with me?
Cheers / B |

Are the backups in the same format? Which format? Did you export the database or back it up? |

hmm, me being a real novice at this isint making things easier...
I have made theese backups by exporting the database in myPhpadmin to a .sql-file.
what is the difference in exporting in myphpadmin or using the "backup database" feature in the phpnuke admin-panel?
have I answered your questions kguske?

Exporting to an sql file creates a text file that cannot be used with the restore function in phpMyAdmin. However, it can be used with the SQL function.
Backup create a compressed file that can be used with restore. |

Okey, this confuses me
What I've done is that I have exported my database tables to a sql-file i myphpAdmin.
Then when I try to restore I go to the SQL-tab in myphpadmin and point to the exported sql-file.
This workes fine with one of my files but not with the other, and I cant figure out why that is....

Try loading it through the SQL tab, rather than through restore. |

Thats is what i'm doing.
I dont know any other way then through the sql-tab
But the wierd thing is that one file is ok ond the other (the newer one) is not ok, it fails...
And I cant figure out why, and what the difference between them is?

Guess I should've asked the next obvious question: is the SQL all there? Is it corrupt? Does it execute if you paste it into phpMyAdmin? |

Ok, here is where we're testing my SQL-Limits
When I compare the 2 filoes they look alike but only the old one seems to work.
How do I paste it into phpMyAdmin to execute it?
Thx for trying to help me even if I am slow at this

This sad story comes to a happy end with Hitwalker making a hero effort in helping me restore the database by hand!
It set me back about 5 months but it is way better then the alternative (to start from scratch).
Thx, kguske for trying, and thx Hitwalker again for taking your time to help a trusting stranger!
Cheers all / B |
