Im sure this is specific to 2.1, as it was working dandy before the upgrade.

Shoutbox.js doesnt want to scroll anymore Crying or Very sad I have done no work on the site, apart from the standard RN upgrade.

I don't use it so I am at a loss. Have you checked your server Error Log? Is their a yellow triangle at the bottom left corner of your browser? If so, double click on it to see what it says. Lastly, please do a View Source and look for an indication of an error in the source.

Cheers Raven

I do have a yellow triangle, in IE.

the exact error msg is..

Line: 302
Char: 1
Error: 'SBtext' is undefined
Code: 0

SB is a reference to Shoutbox

Ok so, line 302, in what file? mainfile.php or config.php i assume. And what does it mean by 'SBtext' is undefined?

Line 302 in the total source code. Please zip it (view source) up and email it to me.

SBtext is not in the View Source file that you sent me. SBtxt is. However, SBtxt, as the error says, is not defined anywhere. Are you missing a <link> tag or something that is supposed to include some JavaScript code?

Yeah, sounds like you may have overwritten a file or when you merged, you may have missed a line.

Is your shoutblock history there? ie: post a shout, click on history and see the shout?

Yes it is populated, the tables are intact, people are still posting.
The block window just appears blank..As per normal when it first loads, then the shouts should start scrolling through.

ouch ... been there, had to turn off the shoutblock on one site last week.

The block isn't loading a js function. I just can't remember which one.

And the sad part is that I've fixed this before ... while upgrading big shoutblock needed site from 6.9 to RN 2.02 ... did I take any notes? I thought for sure I did, but they've gone missing and the neurons required to fix it again are missing too.

Raven posted this same problem at ourscripts.

One of the annoying things about javascript is if there is any error at all, everything stops working. Firefox has a nice tool that shows you javascript errors and warnings. Try loading your page with that turned on. I think IE7 has something similar too, not sure.

I use that shout box too so I'll be eager to see what happens when I upgrade (hopefully this weekend).

Were there core file edits for that block? It has been so long since I installed it that I can't remember.

Well after Raven posted, alarm bells were ringing of an include in the mainfile, or something like that, as it stopped just after the upgrade. But ive checked the Shoutbox package, and i cant see anywhere where it says 'edit this file'
So i guess not.
I have AOL, IE7 and Seamonkey, does seamonkey have the same debugging features?

Did you copy /include files from an backup/archive or do a fresh install of Shoutblock?

There are js type files in the /includes dir. I'd do a file compare from a backup where it did work, with a new rn install.

ok ignore my last Q Gremmie, i have found the seamonkey error console.

I get several errors with the 'SBtext' undefined, basically every page that loads, has this error.

CodyG I basically, over-wrote the shoutbox install, from my originally downloaded package, and i re-did the sql import.

Error: SBtxt is not defined
Source File: http://www.sasclan.org/index.php
Line: 267

The astute among you, will know that the standard RN 2.1 index.php only has 98 lines.

The line number is probably referring to the generated HTML output, not the php file.

Thats because the js files ad lines, and the browser is counting them. It can be rather annoying.

Open the shoutbox.js, I forget what the last line is but try replacing it with:
Code:
if(window.addEventListener)

    window.addEventListener("load",allonloads,false);
else if (window.attachEvent)
    window.attachEvent("onload", allonloads);

As I said yesterday, that's not referring to a line in a file. It's referring to the expanded source code. Your issue is with at least 1 file not getting loaded that defines SBtxt.

I just checked my site. I have a file called shoutbox.js in the same directory as index.php (my root directory) --- not in the modules/Shout_Box directory. This file has the definition for SBtxt. Do you have this file?

(BTW - I don't know why they did that, it is very easy to generate the HTML for the s~cript tag to point into the modules/Shout_Box directory)

Its the window.onload it's being over written I bet. What I posted should fix the problem.

They did alot of things wrong with the module. I rewrote alot of it because its horribly inefficient. I cut the load time by 2/3.

The line is:
window.onload=allonloads;

not working yet

So, you changed the line?
