My issues with forums groups and their moderators and members and permissions, are getting old. Seems like a lifetime ago, NS Groups, was integrated with phpBB forums. I've been confuddled ever since. I'm not saying it isn't a good idea, I'm saying the configuration help file is out of date.

have a happy coding day. |

I have been working with NS groups and phpbb and yes, they still are integrated.
Create a group in NSN Groups and it will create one in phpBB - I also noticed that it will create duplicate group names in phpBB... (not cool) even though they have their own ID's.
One thought on this particual issue - I don't know how many users you have atm, but if you are considering validating your users anyway - why not set up an NSN Group for forum access and then add only the people you know to that particular group?
That way anyone who signs in as new would have to be 'approved' by you to post in the forums. You could still leave it open for people to view and read if you like - but by setting the forum permissions individually to "PRIVATE", you can open up the group permissions to allow access or disallow access - thereby effectively shutting out anyone you don't know from posting.
I did something similar to this with the NSN Paypal script on my site to weed out script kiddies. It is amazing how two dollars will separate the wheat from the chaff so to speak. If you wanted to post in the forums - it cost you two bucks for 6 months.
Just a random thought spurred by CodyG's whine/comments.

Well, there are enough free forums worldwide so why should someone pay only to be able to post ?
I ´m thinking about this idea since a long time because I´m getting daily a lot of new members and I need a solution to limit the similar posts somewhere. |

Yeah this was basically the way I limited spam and also a way to limit script kiddies pre-sentinel who would attempt to use the forums to post a hack.
It is a nice solution if you have this particular problem.

it just dawned on me and i verified that every time i change my permissions to is moderator even tho i am admin and have the god account its changeing the new users permissions as well......i changed his permissions to not moderator in all forums and both mine and his names disappear as moderators......i go to my user name change my permissions to is moderator and his name auto pops up next to mine .......theres the issue and why it looks like the new user is doing it....but why is it doing it and how do i fix it ?? |
Evaders, any chance you can shed some light here? I don't know phpBB as well as you. |

I would help, except I don't really use NSN Groups and his post is not making sense to me right now. Care to translate (and punctuate, capitalize, etc)? |

mds, since this thread to a slightly separate turn in the middle, it would be good to get a summary of the issue in its current state. Then maybe we can try again. |
