Latest Reviews Block

I have been moving over my content from an earlier .phpnuke site and I have been trying out the Latest Reviews block at the top middle of my site. My question is just how many reviews does the Latest Reviews Block show anyway? I mean I have 12 reviews out of 160+ reviews added to the database so far and all of them are showing up in the Latest Reviews Block.

Is this normal? I mean shouldn't this be limited to say five or maybe ten like the Last Five Articles Block? If this is the normal behavior of this Latest Reviews Block to show ALL reviews is there any easy way I can limit it to displaying say only the latest five or ten reviews? Any help appreciated.

The block is set to display the last 10. If you want to change that number, open blocks/blocks-Reviews.php and find the following code:

$sql = 'SELECT id, title FROM '.$prefix.'_reviews ORDER BY id DESC LIMIT 0,10'

change the 10 to the number you want displayed.

Thanks for your answer. It looks like I was wrong and the Latest Reviews block was only showing ten reviews as you pointed out. It will also be helpful to know how to edit how many reviews show up in this block. Of course I now have a follow up question, is there a easy way to display the reviews in the Latest Reviews block in two columns?

The reviews block in RN 2.5 will display the reviews in two columns. I'd post it for you except that it depends on styles and some other files that are part of distribution and it gets kind of difficult trying to package up all the parts you would need. If you can deal with the reviews in one column for a bit longer you will get the fix with RN 2.5.

Thanks for the reply. I will look for the new version when it is released. I was hoping that it would be an easy matter of just adding or changing a code snippet somewhere but it doesn't sound if that is the case.

I guess I will continue using a custom block with .html code in it like my old .phpnuke site then in the meantime as this currently just looks too unbalanced. There is way too much dead space on the right of the Latest Reviews block as it now stands.

That's mainly because it was originally written as a side block (not center), where it's single data column fits more appropriately with the column width.

Why not combine two different blocks into one block, such as Last 5 Reviews and Last 5 News?

The new review block only does two columns when it is a center block.

As for combining the news and reviews blocks, I am sure the RN team will be listening to new ideas again once RN 2.5 is out the door.
