Hello!

I'm going nuts ... I have searched everywhere and can't find it. I *KNOW* I have read about putting the config.sys somewhere else for greater security and then creating another one to point to it but I CANT FIND IT! Bang Head

Please, please ... save my sanity! Can someone point me in the right direction???

Thanks!

From the README text file with PHP Nuke:
Quote:
First Run
---------

Create your Super User following the on-screen instructions.
Now click on "Preferences" and change whatever you want to fit your
site info. All the options you need to change are in the Preferences
menu. If you need help just click con the help icon at the right-top
of the Administration Menu. This will open a new window with the help
you need for each section in the administration system.

SECURITY TIP: It's a good choice to put your config.php file outside the
Web Server path, then you can create a new config.php with the line:

<?php include("../config.php"); ?>

You'd copy your config.php file outside your web root. It shouldent be in your public html directory at all.

For some people this is simply one directory back from where their config.php is already.

If you've installed nuke into a sub-directory then one directory back isent far enough. Your still in the public web root.

The new file you create is like the one in the post up above. It has to have the correct server path to where you put the original config.php.

The only other snafu that catches some people is directory permissions. Your original config.php has to be in a place where it's accessable by the new config.php when it runs.

Here's an example.

Quote:
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Jul 27 07:10 sbin
drwxrwxrwt 2 administrator administrator 4096 Aug 18 12:57 tmp

When you telnet or ssh into your server your a specific user. The name depends on how your server was set up and could be just about anything. It is possible that as you go up the directory tree things start being owned by usernames other than you.

In the example sbin is owned by root and tmp is owned by administrator.

Check the directory where the original config.php used to reside. When you choose or create an new directory outside the public html directory be sure that this new directory is owned by the same user as your public html directory.

If one dosent exist go ahead and create one. I would not suggest reassigning one!

Althought it just might be able to, your new config.php script probably won't be able to access a directory that is owned by someone else. So it's easiest just to create one that is owned by you. (owned by the same owner that owns your public html directory).

I hope that wasent to complicated?

Darrell
