Hello There.

Ive recently installed a fresh install of Ravennuke, and now im trying to modify a theme to match my site.

Ive tried to modify fisubice theme that are supplied with the installation. I change the style.css and all the changes works like a charm. Now to the trouble. The second i press the forums button the theme changes its chape to the original again. Ive looked in the theme\forums folder and found a forums.css file. Ive modified this one to, but the changes doesn't work.

Hmm, theme error i thought and downloaded zonecopper theme. The result are exactly the same with this one to. Its like the supplied forums.css file isn't used.

Is there anyway to solve this, or is this connected to the themes ive tried?

/Mike

The way styles override themselves in the forums particularly is a vexing subject with me and there have been some enlightening threads here. Take a look at overall_header.tpl that's in your theme's forums directory (at least it's in fisubice). After it reads in the forums.css file it proceeds to define a whole bunch of new styles. My reading would be that these override anything that is defined "earlier". You could try modifying these and see if it does what you want or you could wait for someone who is more knowledgeable in detail about how the forum templates work to post.

First thing to check is like fkelly says and look for hard coded styles in the overall_header.tpl

Then you also want to look for the forums.css file being called from the proper theme folder, and also check paths in all of the forum tpl files and make sure they are pointed at your themes forum directory.

I also see the forums.css file duplicating standard HTML tags when it shouldn't.
None of the standard tags should be set in forums.css, only styles pertaining to the forums should be set in there.

Also if you want to, post a link to the site with the theme active and I will take a look at the source and see if I can see anything that could help.

After looking into it now, when i change the overall_header.tpl, it works. I can even remove the forums.css It isnt in use at all.

So the CSS is coded into overall_header.tpl then?
You should really look to remove those and put them in forums.css, it makes it alot easier to work with and is a cleaner solution as well.

Glad you got it working though. Smile

Mars, you may be right about the eventual solution, I really don't know. The whole way that styles work with themes and Forums templates (which are the forums equivalent of themes, but not quite equivalent) needs to be systematically examined and reworked. There are numerous threads here that touch on the subject (look for one that 64bitguy and Gremmie collaborated on) but I don't think anyone knows exactly how this will come out. One wild card is that PHPbb will keep changing things and we will keep getting integration packages and any of that could undermine a lot of work someone did. So we need to have a handle on that.

Well, this is where it comes to making a decision on what fork of phpbb you are going to support, with the systems already seperate it will be next to impossible for a CMS to keep changing the integration every time the forums change.

What I normally do is strip out ALL of the header information and styles from overall_header.tpl and put them in the forums.css

Then I make sure not to redo the standard HTML tags in forums.css as they should be handled by style.css from the main theme.

It is sooo much easier when it is done this way as it keeps everything where it belongs and it makes troubleshooting issues that much simpler as well.
