I have just been checking my site with different browsers and I noticed that IE was notifying me of a Syntax error in line 2 char 1.

When I look at the page source I notice that
Quote:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN"

has a hard CR and a space on the second line.

I think this page is created dynamically but which page actually constructs this header? I have checked
index.php in root
theme.php in my theme
header.html in my theme
meta.php in includes

Anyone throw any light on a filename for me to check? And if it is constructed dynamically surely a ." must have been replaced with just a "

Paul
But unless i have missed something none of the pages seems to do anything to this line

This is in header.php. The core provided file is perfectly compliant and with no error, so you might want to compare what you have now with the original provided in the download to see what might have gone wrong.

Sorted. But the error (if it is one) is present in the disti.

The following line is from the unpack 2.10.01 dist
Quote:

echo '<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN"'."\n".' "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">'."\n";

You may not be able to spot it in the quote but there is a space in the .' "http:// section.
This is the error that IE was reporting, once the space is removed IE is happy. I don't know enough about the HTML standards to know if this is an actual error or just IE being picky, either way it doesn't stop the display of the page

To me that sounds like IE is complaining about some Javascript on your page. That header is perfectly fine and it validates. Where are you seeing this error?
