Finally going to take this particular plunge from the outdated 6.5 to RN 2.20.00. I am VERY happy with my other sites running RN.
I have a lot to preserve in the way of forum post text and a large user base. My simple question is do I just upload the new files to the existing directories and then do the upgrade per docs or is there a better way? I have daily backups of the MySQL DB, etc. no problem there.
Thanks, Jay |

I upgraded my 6.5 nuke version and the forum in place an used the tool mysqldiff to check the differences in the database between my site and a clean RavenNuke. There are other ways to do this but that was for my situation just the right way. Whatever you do make backups and follow the instructions in RavenNuke/HowToInstall and upgrading.
Btw: 6.5 is a bit different change also the nuke users table:

Also, not sure about the BBtoNuke (phpBB) version. There are upgrade scripts in the Utilities directory in the distro, but Susann's advice on MySQLDiff is an excellent one. You would not want to use it to identify data differences, but it can do structures very well.
But, do keep in mind that with different versions of nuke and BBtoNuke, there can also be data differences. It is one of the reasons why I always recommend trying this on your local PC first using XAMPP so that you have time to thoroughly test out everything and make sure you uncover any hidden "gotchas". |

Another thing I can do is that I have a throw-away domain on my FreeBSD server that I use for production testing under actual useage. I can copy my working directory to the test directory, change a few lines in config.php, change the sitename, etc. and see what happens when I do the upgrade there.
Also, thanks for the link about the anonymous -1 to 1. Very helpful, thanks Susann.

dad7732 thats not a bad idea.
I copied also my working site and created a new directory. But I used it only for some tests with the users table and the forums posts. |

Ok, I have to ask a stupid question. Where is the -1 changed to 1 for "anonymous". Sorry !
Jay
Edit: I see "anonymous" in the nuke_users table but anonymous is already 1, not -1 in 6.5. Guess the best is to leave it alone then. |

-1 is a deactivated account I believe. |

Maybe there are different 6.5 versions available. I and other users found -1 there. Important is only that you don´t use - 1 anymore.
Btw:Guardian I´m quite sure I didn´t changed the id for anonymus in the original version. |

I honestly do not remember how the problem came about to start with. I remember reading about the issue when I first joined this site in around 2002 but I do not remember if it was caused by some phpBB upgrade or even when nuke changed from using the Splatt forums and went to phpBB instead.
It is great that you remembered about it though |
