they are becoming so desperate. |

Ganja, have a look at my site, see the spider there in the header ? That's actionscript alone, no animations, now, in the actionscript you can have any amount of spiders running around, simply a variable to change, put it at anything over 20 and watch your CPU max out.
If you don't mind I'm going to make my own flash file to be sent when attacked and do the above
It's a test, I'll look into more and better actionscript to include in the flash file when I get a little time, more devious (for defence purposes).
PS., the flash source is on the site too. |

Enhancements are already planned.
You can change the abuse.swf for personal use all you want to. |

Cool. I'm actually going to make and use a different flash file completely if that's ok, and of course only for personal usage. I'll post flash up with sources when I've done it later in the week. |

Course they did. They quickly close any post regarding any sort of debate concerning the intelligence of anyone that I participate in. Usually I get the next to the last word in, mainly because they can't accept being losers in anything.
Oh well. I'm all up for Raven's Sentinel script. I don't think any visitors who read NukeCops horseshit will think differently after reading my comments, so worrying about them is just a complete waste of time.

I guess I am looking at this in a different light. I don't see any innocent bystanders. I will be using PC Killer and if it causes a person's computer to crash, either that person was attempting to hack my site, or that persons computer has been compromised. That could be the best thing to happen, now the person realizes there is something wrong with their computer and will take the steps necessary to secure their computers. I think that PC Killer should be on by default, the more secure we can make the Internet, the better for us all. The "innocent bystander" is also probably being used in ddos attacks or sending out viruses, so a tap on the shoulder or a punch in the stomach is needed. Thank you - Steve |

You'll have to come to the US to get arrested haha unless we have extradition treaties with the British Isles for the "offense" of crashing a noxious hacker's box. ![Smile](modules/Forums/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

I'm a total newbie to nuke and nuke security, but not a newbie to people bitching about things.
Whatever security program people choose is their choice, and as a total newbie I find Sentinel much easier to use than the other progams available. Saying that, I'm not downing the other programmes. I expect they are just as reliable and good.
I chose Sentinel because after downloading the others, it was the easiest for me to cope with, because I dont understand a lot of the technical terms.
A script is at the mercy of the person who installs it on their site. No matter how brilliant it is, if the person who downloads it and doesnt install it properly, or maybe one file doesnt download or gets corrupted on download, and that person doesnt understand fully how scripts work then they are going to down it not not realising why it's not working properly.
I think all the guys who write this kind of software to protect sites are fantastic. I couldnt do it, nor could 90 per cent of the people who download and use them.
What I guess I'm trying to say is, people should all give the authors and the software a break here.
They are doing their best to protect OUR sites. We dont have the skills to do it. We should all be thankful that there are people out there who are prepared to give up their own free time to help us out.
Sorry for waffling on, I just think people forget sometimes how much time goes into writing these kinda of scripts, and they should be more grateful that people actually take the time to do it.
As for the ethics of using Sentinel which this thread was about originally, I see no problem with using it. If someone is intent on hacking your site, why should you turn the other cheek and sit for a few hours rebuilding your wrecked site just because someone gets a kick out of bringing it down or holds a grudge against you for whatever reason.
It's a great script, and after having my non nuke site hacked by people who I once thought of as friends, just because they were jealous, I have no qualms about the fact if they try to do it again, then I will be responsible for crashing their computers. It's what they deserve. |

That's the one part i don't like about discussions like this one, the main object of the post if often lost halfway and in the end the posts with informative value are buried among the rest so they lose the power behind them but it is not a one sided issue which in my view is the cause for heated replies to arise, this all could have been kept no father than a single premise, is the option right or wrong and should i use it or not? that's all simple and to the point. |

NC chose to use scare tactics, lies (informed or not), slurs, and melodrama to deter people from making their own decisions, against a product only a few day's old! If you have read all the posts there and here and gotten rid of the chaffe, you know that to be true. Even those 'loyal' to NC, if you will, have recognized that and called him on it. In this case, and not because it's Sentinel(tm) but because it is so outlandish and ethically and morally wrong, not to mention that I wouldn't be able to sleep at night if I didn't warn everyone about these tactics, especially the grandmothers and innocent young girls out there, I respond here.
Now, I am not going to lock this thread because I know that civility will reign since I speak the truth. Please don't anyone prove me wrong ![Wink](modules/Forums/images/smiles/icon_wink.gif) |

I simplely choose to align myself with those I trust and I felt would make the best team to bring NSN Sentinel(tm) to life I code because I enjoy it, I code because it might help some webmaster somewhere, I code because plain and simplely it's the talent God gave me. I know you don't care about my faith so that's all I'll mention about it.
Onto Fortress, I did test it. I didn't like it so I killed it. I ran Protector, I liked it but it's to bulky for my site so I removed it. I tried HackAlert, I loved it. Lite, fast, and simple but it lacked the ablity to block IPs. I contacted Raven about it being included in a new build of NSN's IP Banner and he agreed. While the new script was being built Raven was kept upto date on all changes taking place.
We talked with CS, who jumped right in with helping make it better. Six was in the background working with Raven and giving us all sorts of ideas Sorry that I didn't see you before I did Six. Then came GanjaUK and the PC Killer. I happened upon his post for HackAlert and thought to myself, that has got to be in Sentinel(tm). The first version of Sentinel sucked pretty bad, lots of little bugs to work out but we all tracked em down and squashed them. Now we're working on 1.2.0
Each version is making a gaint leap forward due to the team that is working on it. Doesn't matter who codes, who tests, who tweaks, and so on. We are a team and that is the only reason this script is what it is and why it's as good as it is.
Yes, there is a great deal of friction between this team and another team out there. Each person on this team has had dealings with the other team and walked away from those dealings wiser, tougher, and alot stronger.
We have also had dealings with each other over the past years, dealings that has earned respect for each other. When we have a problem, bam there's an email saying so and we deal with, work it out and move on for the betterment of the community. I have the highest reguard for each of the men on this team.
I don't care if your 14 or 54, I don't care if your famous or an unknown, I don't care about much as long as your honest and fair. Treat me the way you want to be treated and I'll treat you the same way. And by doing so you will earn my trust and respect and hopefully I'll earn your trust and respect.
We have disagreements from time to time. It's impossible to always agree, it's how you conduct yourself when you disagree that tells the world what kind of man you are. Are you a man that can be trusted and respected, or are you a man that can be counted on to stab everyone else in the back?
Now, down to the question you all are asking, what is Bob rambling on about? You will notice that I very rarely ever post on NC. I only post when I feel that I must do so because the man that runs NC is not a man that I would trust with anything much less respect. I search daily for any signs that I could respect him for anything but as time passes I find less and less.
This will be my one post on these subjects. Read into it what you want, discount what you want. In the end either you trust this team or you don't. If you don't go away and play with someone else. |

I'd just like to offer my time to this project, or any others undertaken by Chat, Raven, or Bob as a tester. What I can offer, is every version of PHPNuke 7.0 - 7.3 AND all FUTURE versions, downloaded from PHPNuke.org and then files downloaded from here to patch each version. I am running various versions locally on an win2K professional box with the following file support and server software:
Apache version 2.0.49 with ApacheMonitor 2.0.45 and 2.0.49
MySQL 4.0.18 with MyODBC 3.51 and winMYSQLadmin 1.4
OpenSSL 0.9.7b with mod_ssl 2.0.46 , Stunnel 4.04 and SSLCert 1.0
XMail 1.18 with Xmail Queue Manager 1.47
PHP 4.3.4 with Pear 1.1 ,Smarty 2.5.0 ,Zend Opt. 2.5.0 ,Turck MM. 2.4.6, Dbg 2.16.3
Perl 5.8.0 with mod_perl 1.99_10 apache2 module , Apache::ASP and PPM 0.18
Python 2.2.2 with mod_python 3.0.3 , Py2exe 0.3.4, MySQL-python 0.9.2 and Spyce 1.3.11
TCL 8.4.2 with TK 8.4 and Vtcl 1.6.0
+ SlimFTPd 3.15 , PHPcoder 1.03 , PHPXMail 0.68 ,UebiMiau 2.7.5 , MMCache 2.4.6
+ PHP-Nuke 6.9 , PhpBB 2.0.6 , PHPmyadmin 2.5.6 , AWStats 6.0
If I can help out in any way, please let me know. Contact information can be found in my profile. Thanks to all of you for the work you are doing, not only with Sentinel, but for filling the gaps left by NC.
As for to use or not to use, I'll be using it, along with all the functions it gives me to protect my, or my client's sites, until I find some proof that it does anything illegal for which I, or my clients, can be held liable for. |

No.. I would blame my self for trusting them. I threw some extra protection in there from chat. just for esurance. But Raven proves to be a great guy, like ive said before, i would trust my life with him. I mean step back and look at it, do you see his site getting hacked, no. |

I have known Raven for quite sometime. I will not argue that he IS a great guy. But, I would find a hard time actually stating that I would trust him with my life. We are talking about a web site here. Not LIFE. Actually, I don't see many Nuke sites hacked at all lately with all the great Hack Protection Systems out there now for Nuke. Ravenscripts is no exception. Nukeresources hasn't been hacked that I can think of. Nor NC. Nor my sites.

PC Killer - To use or not to use:
I do not use it right now because of innocent people being banned due to a bug in my downloads search. Will I use it once I get that figured out? I am not sure. I like the idea of asingle pop-up and then the screen of teh bannage but I do not like those annoying pop-ups that I can't get rid of. do the hackers deserve it. YES. Will it stop them from hacking? No. What does it accopmlish in the end? They might leave my site alone or they might come back full force.. I do not know. But I don't think I will use the PC Killer option. A matter of personal taste... ![Cool](modules/Forums/images/smiles/icon_cool.gif) |

Got my first "hit" on my brand new Sentinel(tm) and the perp is right there on my front page for the whole world to smirk over... there but for the grace of God go I haha I'm really pleased with Sentinel (how do peeps get that 'tm' hoisted up the yardarm, there doesn't seem any sup in bbcode...?) Anyway I have Sentinel(tm) set at unlimited popups, and I don't care if it IS a little old lady without a user agent since that is unlikely, but if it is she can email me and explain she wasn't really tryin' to hack me, it was her grandson who set off your fine security measure, sir! I have no ethical problem using Sentinel (get up that yardarm, tm!) 'cause it's a zoo out there on the net and upstanding, decent folks (like me!) need good security if they want to run a nuke website. Just a fact of life. |
