I have posted this basic request several times on several message boards. I have had 2 or 3 people that have shown interst but nothing has ever happened beyond talking.
I want a modual created that will take someone with real programming experience. I am willing to pay for the work because I realize that it will be some serious work (I am guessing ground up programming) I am not talking "Oh here is $30 nod do it"
Now here is the basics of the project. A points tracking modual that will enable administrators to enter results from races and the program will calculate the total points and place for each racer.
This program will calculate points for a national title. Each region administrator will be submitting the results for races in their region. THe program will have to be able to calculate each persons point/position individualy.
The data entry interface must be very user friendly because the administrators are very good at gettin 2 plus Horse power out of an engine but posting on a message board is advanced computer work for them
This is the basic program. I will want 3 more phases done in the future but need the basic program done first.
Is there a programmer out there that has the ability and time to dedicate to this PAYING project.
I am not a hard arse and will discuss with you the full project and we will both come up with a time table to get the project done (I know it is not a 2 day job, heck it probably isn't a 2 month only job) Phone comunication in discussing the project is required so that I don't screw things up when describing the full project.
Thanks for your intrest. Hey Raven you are a PHP God.......... |

I am ashamed to say that I dod just that with Evader when he showed intrest in this project lol. I did have a written description in place but was hopeing that the sketch would work better. With his lack of contact I will assume that he thought me an idiot (which is not far from the truth lol)
I have what I think is an ok UML of the first phase just completed. So if anyone wants to take a look and make fun of me please let me know. |

To throw an extra incentive in there if the person that does the project lives close enough (within 300 miles or so of Pittsburgh, Pa)
You will get to take a few laps in my racing kart (ever wonder what it feels like to do 100 mph with your rear end 1 inch off the ground???) |

Not necessarily, if it is just normal English . Out of all the systems I have designed and all the project teams I have managed over the past 38 years at Fortune 100 and Fortune 500 companies, I have never had to resort to UML. That's a fact. It doesn't mean UML is not needed, but in my experience it is a specific tool that is used in specific projects; usually huge and intertwined with many other complex systems. Then again, if you were raised believing that white was black then you'd be hard to convince that it wasn't |

We use UML where I work and find it very useful. However we use only a small fraction of the UML. We only use class diagrams, use cases, and sequence diagrams. Class diagrams, I have found, are most useful for sketching out the major classes in your programs and how they relate to each other.
And there are idiots out there who believe one can go right from UML to code via an automated tool. |

Exactly! The diagrams you mention are available through several other packages in variants but server the same purpose. I was speaking to the UML methodology as the means to all ends approach. It is interesting to note that you mention major classes and not ALL classes (overkill) |

Well there are 2 people that are taking a look at my gibberish (Raven being one) so we will see if the project is possible
Kind of funny that I accidentally struck up an intellectual discussion. I love this site because I learn something every time I drop in.

LOL!
For me UML is a base to describe with a client the steps to proceed for a working draft (use-case). Most of the time things get overlooked and therefore there's always a time penalty and delay.
Then i draw basic class diagrams so that a developer can work with basic framework and extend it to the customer its needs.
Yes i agree that a full UML is overkill but if you know the basics it would be easier to communicate over 1000's of miles between U.S.A. and Europe.
See it as Esperanto
Raven, you always had your projects "finished" in time and within the calculated hours? |

I admit I've only used UML a couple times. I can see it being useful on large projects though |

Usually ahead of schedule - seriously. As I attempted to allude to in my previous rants/raves there are other tools that accomplish the tasks. Also, most all of my life was spent on Main Frames (big Iron). The last several years prior to my disability retirement in 2005 were on Sprint's intrAnet web systems. |
