Love it so far, thanks guys!

One thing I noticed is if I use the htaccess file, the forward to setting doesn't work, you just get the 403 forbidden page, is this by design?

I like the page that comes up when they get banned, not the killer (have that off) but the page that shows they've been blocked, and the email to contact if it was a mistake, so I made one to match for the forward option. I'm sure there aren't going to be too many accidental bans, but if it were to happen, and the person didn't take note of the email before trying a refresh, I'd like them to see that page again.

So I guess my question is, what is the benefit of using the htaccess? If it's best to use it I could make a custom 403.

That would be best. The advantage is htaccess blocks their access to all of your web period.

I simply made a custom 403 page:

Oh man, that is too funny. Laughing

I made up custom pages, but when I used the htaccess, and banned myself, I still got the reg forbidden page. I found that if you don't use the htaccess, and don't forward, they see the same page they see when they initially get banned, every time they try the url. That's good enough for me for time being.

If you make a custom forward to page put it in the "abuse/" directory which by design allows even a banned ip to view the pages you put in there. So your forward to url would be something like http://www.mysite.com/abuse/CUSTOM.php .
