Before attempting this, I want to be sure it will work with no data loss. The 2.3 release appears to be full version (as opposed to an upgrade), is there an option to upgrade a 2.2 site and, if so, is there any risk of data loss during the process?
Thanks. |

I suggest read the HowToInstall/upgrade.html in detail.
So many things changed in version 2.3.If you have mods installed you need to know the forums files in the includes folder moved to modules/forums/includes.
So you need to add the mods after your backup again.
Thats the way I do this normally.
Blocks and modules with the old $dbi will not work without modification or you need to uncomment the lines in mainfile.php.
You will not loose data but make backups and don´t overwrite important files(htaccess, meta.php etc.) without backup.
Its also important to delete unused files. |

Would recommend that you try it locally with a copy of your 2.2 database backup first. You could see how things go without disturbing your working site. Xampp is what I use locally to try things out. Saves a lot of headaches... That way if you have mods or whatever, you can see if any changes need to be made or if they will work just fine in the upgrade. Better to mess up a local setup then the main one. Not that anything will mess up, but the time I think I won't do it this way always is the time when something goes haywire. Doing it locally is a good way to troubleshoot. May eliminate surprises for the most part. If it goes well on the local setup, then you will feel more comfortable doing the working site. |

I did not see the upgrade.html file - thank you for the extra direction, and I
WILL try this on a secondary server. |

It´s quite easy. Good luck ! ![Smile](modules/Forums/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

jazzfuser, it is really "HowToInstall", but you can also find it on the test domain for Only registered users can see links on this board! Get registered or login!. Pay special attention to the Upgrading page. |

Yes, it is there - I'm an idiot! Sorry...and I appreciate the extra push.
Thanks everyone, and HAPPY NEW YEAR! Be safe, but have a great time tonight. |
