When a user registers, they get an email to the effect "You or someone else .........". I have several users that fail to follow through to activate their account because they are afraid of the " ... someone else ...." dialog. Taking into consideration today's heightened awareness of phishing expeditions and ID theft, etc. I can somewhat understand this non-action.

Suggest changing the dialog to something a bit more innocuous, such as "You have chosen to register on our site ......". Easy enough to change the language text on my own installs nonetheless.

Mantis issue? Comments welcomed.

Cheers

I think it's fine as it is. The "or someone else" is there so that if you get the email and didn't actually register at the site, you know someone is using your email address.

I get people trying to register all the time but some don't activate the account either because they simply changed their minds, thought they were going to get quick access to spam my forums or (most usually) the email provider of the registrant has filtered the mail to a spam box.
I normally mail most of those that don't activate the account to see why they didn't.

Of course, the other thing is, most spammers know a lot of sites no longer allow direct registration so they try to register just to see if the get a mail with an adress they can add to their spam list Smile

That's why I check the IP address when I get the notify that a user requests approval OR the activation email has been sent without the approval requirement. But, each to their own, that's why the language files are quite easy to edit, etc. Smile

I agree that the language should remain unchanged.

G, regarding the spammers wanting email, are you saying that they want the "from" email from the registration? I've seen this done both with registration and feedback (which basically kills the benefit of using a "recommend us" type function, except for logged-in members).

Every webmaster is free to change the language files for his site. There is no need to use always the default. Someone asked me to change the standard language files for Surveys because it would be better to add something like "Our reviews can´t be be considered representative" but I don´t suggest to change the text.Of course it´s true but it´s a negative statement.
